Jesse Strickman VS the Super Typhoon

Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and community,

In November, the Philippines was hit by the strongest storm to ever make it to land EVER. It left millions homeless and 7,000 dead. It's been classified as a type 5 Super Typhoon (with 5 being the highest possible rating for a hurricane). Though it will take years for the country to recover, communities are resilient and have started to rebuild. I want to be part of that process!

I will join a diverse group of environmentalists, economic development planners, philantropists and students in "Relief & Resilience Tour of the Philippines." We will be working with coastal communities in the islands of Bantayan and Boracay that are employing innovative methods to strengthen livelihood projects for affected members in their communities. I will learn how to build or repair boats, harvest seaweed, see how mangroves are protected to buffer against storms, help run a fluorescent lamp recycling project, and be exposed to various ways that folks recover from such a devastating experience that Haiyan brought to bear.

I found out about the tour after the deadline but they squeezed my application in last minute and gave me an interview. I got in!! Now, I need to raise $3,000 by April 30th to cover my airfare and expenses during the Tour. The Transnational Institute for Grassroots Research and action (TIGRA), a non-profit with offices in California and Manila, has been generous in covering most of my program-related expenses; I need to cover my board, lodging, and transportation costs. TIGRA has also offered to get my funds matched so that I only actually have to raise half!

If you know me and care about me please throw me a donation. This trip will not only shape my life, nurture my growth, and help carve a path for me in the global fight for social healing, but it will also directly strengthen the Philippines' relief efforts overseas. I can only do it with the support of the community - PEOPLE LIKE YOU!

Thank you,

Jesse
