About DOCTOR Chiu

Dr. Jorge Chiu was born in Guatemala in 1973, to a middle-class family.

His father worked in a rum company and his mother stayed at home. As a child, young Jorge lived in Quetzaltenango and attended an American Preschool. At 8 years old, he moved to the city and was enrolled in another American School (Interamericano) and went too Alabama in the U.S. as an exchange student on his vacation time for 4years in a row to study. After high school he enrolled in the Guatemala fire dept as a volunteer w
hile studying medicine, at the Francisco Marroquin University in Guatemala City.

During college he performed Elective rotations at Tulane University Hospital. In 1998 he graduated.

After he passed the United States Medical Board exams and became certified by the commission of foreign Medical graduates in the states.(ecfmg), he entered the General Surgery program at the Social Security hospital in Guatemala obtaining the specialty of General Surgery in 2002.

He then started the cardiothoracic surgery program at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, and graduated in 2006.

Worked in Guatemala as cardiac surgeon in unicar hospital and private practice in Guatemala and in 2011, he went back to Cleveland Clinic for an advance thoracic fellowship...

In 2011 he started the EMT program in the volunteer fire dept in Guatemala, as a one year program, which on completion was
upgraded to a 3 year program.
Dr Chiu is currently the chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at The Military Medical center in Guatemala and the sub-director of the EMT program at the volunteer fire dept of Guatemala. Nationwide.

At present, he drives a battered 27 year old Land Cruiser that breaks down constantly. In this rough environment that can mean the difference between life and death.
In the truck, he carries all his medical supplies. At the moment, Dr. Chiu is struggling to maintain this support and more supplies are urgently needed for him to carry on his critical work.

Your help, whatever amount, will be very much appreciated. ALL Proceeds go Dr.Chiu.
