Univ of Aberdeen Theology PhD (Scotland)

As an Evangelical I have always felt that missions are a high calling, not to mention a vital part of the health and vitality of the Christian community.  Despite that deeply held belief, the call to Africa or India never came to me.  I do feel called, however, to a different mission field:  the academy.  It is a mission field of a different sort but just as needy.  Instead of a poverty of means the academy has a poverty of spirit.  It is to that end that I have sought admission into a PhD program with the ultimate goal of research and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level.

My main interest is the defense and promotion of the doctrine of Scripture.  For the average Evangelical Christian in the pews, the Scriptures are the very oracles of God.  For our secular counterparts they represent a vestige of a superstitious past.  I hope not only to defend the Scriptures against the consistent and virulent attacks that are a mainstay of religious and theological discourse, but I also hope to find new ways of understanding the warp and woof of what the Scriptures can and do mean to us.

The fulfillment of that dream is close at hand.  I have been admitted into a theology PhD program at the University of Aberdeen.  Unfortunately, this enterprise is expensive!  Tuition, when translated into US dollars, is $20,160.  Having been a high school math teacher for the past several years, I don't exactly have $60,480 (tuition times three years) just lying around.  Any help that you can provide would be appreciated!  God bless.
