AED's in Pittsfield Township Police Cars

As many of you know, I went into sudden cardiac arrest on February 3rd, 2013.  Sudden Cardiac Arrest is the leading cause of death in the United States.  It is estimated that 424,000 people each year experience sudden cardiac arrest and of those people, approximately 92% do not survive.  An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a medical device designed to quickly analyze the heart's rhythm and safely deliver an electric shock.  It is the only definitive emergency treatment for sudden cardiac arrest.  The first person on the scene of a cardiac arrest is in the best position of saving a life, if the rescuer is equipped with an AED.  The chance for survival of a person who goes into sudden cardiac arrest decreases by 10% for every minue that defibrillation is delayed. 
Thanks to an amazing group of people including my husband Nick and the 3 police officers that were first on the scene, I survived.  Those 3 police officers had an AED in the back of their police car.  The EMS arrived over 5 minutes later.  The AED that saved my life was bought with money raised from a community fundraiser.  Had a community of special people not fundraised, I would not be here today. 
Pittsfield Township Police Department is the only police department in Washtenaw County that does not carry AED's in their on duty police cars.  I am fundraising to ensure when a Pittsfield Township police officer is first on the scene of a sudden cardiac arrest, they are in the position to save a life.
