Who are we?

We are a group of undergraduate students at Metropolitan State University of Denver's Meteorology program that are being led by professors Dr. Sam Ng, Dr. Keah Schuenemann, and Scott Landolt. For this research, our principal investigator is Dr. Keah Schuenemann.

What are we trying to do?
We are in the primary phases of conducting research on why thunderstorm development occurs along the Palmer Divide when conditions are noted as unfavorable in the region. Our preliminary hypthesis for the unexpected storm development is that the divide's topography and upslope characterisitcs act to create areas of high dew points and possibly a dryline that leads to the development of thunderstorms.

What's our method?
During this upcoming summer we will utilize data collected from our own weather stations as well as data from stations that already exist in the surrounding areas. In addition to station data, we will be taking in-situ measurements with Kestrel instrumentation in areas of developing storms.

When will this take place?
Primary research is beginning April 2014 and will continue through august. Data analysis will occur during the off-season. A second season of research with improved instrumentation will take place April-August 2015.
