Easter Basket-Hilda Barg Homeless Center

Donation protected
Lent is a time of change and reflection. Almsgiving is a big portion of Lent. Almsgiving comes in different forms, whether it is a monetary form of donation, serving your time, or giving away physical objects such as food or clothes. Most of us take way too many things for granted. Almsgiving challenges us to take a look at our priorities, and to separate what you need and what you want.

I have thought long and hard about a volunteer project for Lent, and I couldn't think of one. I got inspired for this project the other day, when I ran across a Facebook Page of someone doing this in New York. I thought it was a wonderful way to give back to the community.

I have worked with my church and my local homeless shelters in the past, and it has always been very rewarding. I am an active volunteer at my church, and currently the Altar Server Coordinator.

I want to strive to complete a special project each month, along with my regular volunteering. I am very blessed and appreciative of all that I have, and I always want to give back to my community and give to those less fortunate. Volunteering, no matter how small can make a difference.

For the month of April, I am wanting to make Easter Baskets and donate them to the children at the Hilda M. Barg Homeless Prevention Center in Woodbridge, Virginia. "The Hilda M. Barg Homeless Prevention Center is a 30-bed shelter that provides homeless families and individuals with a wide variety of services, including case management, mental health counseling, drug and alcohol abuse prevention, budgeting programs, employment services and adult education."

Little gestures can go a long way, especially for a child. I remember looking for my Easter basket from my parents each year, when I was younger.

The baskets will be gender-neutral with relatively the same items, just different variations.

I'm planning on 30 baskets for the Hilda M. Barg Homeless Prevention Center. Along with my own personal money, I am looking for donations to help defray the costs of all of the supplies involved in this project.

The generous donations will be used to buy: Baskets, Easter grass, a variety of Easter candy, small toys, color books (and crayons), puzzle books, stuffed animals, possibly gift cards for older kids, etc.
Any extra funding exceeding me goal, I will donate to my church, Holy Family Catholic Church's Food Pantry of Dale City, Virginia, or I will add extra items to the baskets, depending upon how much it is.

Please help me to reach my goal! Any contribution that you can give will be much appreciated. This will be my first GoFundMe campaign, so even just an email of encouragement or suggestions, or helping to get the word out about my campaign to your family and friends would be so appreciated. At the very least, if I don't meet our goal, I can still make as many baskets as my personal and your generous donations allow, and still be able to donate to the Hilda M. Barg Homeless Prevention Center. (Of course, more money means more baskets 30 Easter Baskets is my minimum goal).

"Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you." "“Luke 6:38
