Stem Cell Transplant Medical Bills

Donation protected

My name is Makayla Claussen and I am a survivor. This is my story!

Makayla Claussen graduated from Antioch High School in 2011, where she was Homecoming Queen, star soccer player, and devoted student who graduated with distinguished honors. She went on to attend the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in Knoxville, TN. In her sophomore year of college, Makayla was diagnosed with a rare immune disease and blood cancer and she took a hiatus from her education to feel better. The diagnosis she later received on April 15, 2013 was Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), and T-Cell Lymphoma.

During her time in the hospital, Makayla received various chemotherapy treatments, blood transfusions, IV Antibiotics, steroids, and underwent two central line placements. The doctors believed this would save Makayla, but unfortunately, she relapsed and was told she would need a Stem Cell Transplant in order to survive.

On August 23, 2013, Makayla received her second chance and underwent an emergency unrelated Stem Cell Transplant at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. As a Stem Cell Transplant patient, you receive IV Fluids, blood transfusions, and various 'maintenance' IV medicine; you are also placed on over 25+ medications for roughly 6 months. Makayla has also had very many tests and procedures (Bone marrow biopsy, blood work, bone density, etc.) and The Claussen's are financially struggling.

The Claussen's medical bills have reached over $2 million, not including insurance and with insurance they currently owe $75,000.00 along with other monthly expenses. Each month the Claussen's have co-pays, $1,000.00 a month for medications and doctor visits.

With God's love, your prayers and support, Makayla Claussen can and will beat these rare diseases. Any donation you have of any amount is much appreciated and thank you for helping provide a blessing to her family.

Please help this strong family.
