"With a shudder, Elijah made his way down the dreary street to the only light he could see at the end of the road. It was indeed a shop. However, the door did not ring, but instead groaned as it opened. It sounded as tired as the shopkeeper inside looked, who also looked startled to see a young boy late at night in his shop.
"Yes, sir. Excuse me sir, but why is it so dark? Where are the lights and bright trees and happy villagers?"
The man still stared, and Elijah stammered, "Christmas, sir, where is Christmas?""

Inspired by an amazing act of generosity I experienced as a small child, one that made me love Christmas forever, I tell this children's story about bringing light to dark places to inspire two things for all children: hope, and compassion. We cannot live without either.
