Moving Expenses

My dear friend Louann has suffered from Arthritis since age 12. In 1992 bursitis and ulcers began. She had overcome the disability for many years with pain meds and occupational techniques.

In 2002 a life change  found her describing herself as "a displaced homemaker, driving a Big Truck", with no medical care or insurance. After 8 years living in the truck and another 4 driving "in town" the lack of being able to see a doctor, combined with the heavy physical requirements escalated her medical problems. In June 2012 Louann collapsed at work and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. Transfusions of saline and blood got her back on her feet enough to return to work for 2 weeks.

July 2012 she got a call from work telling her not to come in, the contract she was under had been cancelled. It took 7 months to find another driving job. During the layoff Louann was hospitalized again for surgery to repair the cause of her June collapse.  Although she now had medical care (cost was based on ability to pay) She drained her savings and is deeply in debt to friends. Denied Welfare and Unemployment, Louann did get food stamps and energy assistance.

The new job, 2/13,  paid $350 per week, about 1/4th her previous income and was even more physically demanding than she had previously done. Spring 2013, a routine physical discovered a lump in her thyroid. Inconclusive biopsies led to surgery in Aug 2013. Through 2013 the arthritis/bursitis Louann had always dealt with was compounded by severe back, shoulder, hip and knee pain. Basic things like dressing, keeping house, animal care became very painful. Diagnosis: bone spurs on her back, tendonitis and rotator cuff issues in both shoulders, bursitis in hips and knees, knee caps being pulled out of alignment. Louann was "let go" from the recent driving job she had in Feb 2014 because she was not able to fulfill the job duties.

Now on a "cocktail" of 4 different meds each day, the pain is not so severe, but is still debilitating and many times prevents sleep. The meds make her drowsy and dizzy.  Medicaid has provided Louann with a cane and a handicap parking permit.    A diagnosis of IBS-D, more ulcers and Fibromyalgia in 2015 add to the list of meds and keeps her pretty much house bound.  2016 arthritis has started in the feet, along with nerve pain caused by back issues.

Louann is now on Social Security Disability.  She was turned over to Medicare 8/2016, which covers very little if anything.

Unfortunately it is not enough to cover all her expenses, and court dates have been set for foreclosure.   The waiting list for HUD/Section8 housing assistance is long,  and she has been on the list for a year now.

So we ask your help to cover the cost of packing up and moving her belongings into storage until new housing arrangements can be made.
