Hip Replacement Surgery

First off I'd like to thank my Aunt Laura for starting this fundraising site for me! I'm a very independent woman who never had to ask of help, until the night of Nov 10th 2001 at age 18, when I was in a car accident hit head on by a drunk driver.

That night in John C Lincoln Trauma hospital where I was rushed in by the paramedics, unconscience with a slight chance of survival, with friends and family waiting nearby not knowing if they'd ever see me again. My injuries consisted of ; internal bleeding due to a shattered spleen, lacerated liver and a hole in my stomach, my right shin bone cut open, right knee cap shattered, left hip joint shattered and a concussion. I stayed in the ICU for 2 weeks and the hospital from Nov 10th to Dec 19th. I was blessed to have a surgeon who saved my life and performed a splenectomy (removal of the spleen) to stop the internal bleeding, I was told I was within 3 minutes of dying. The hip specialist tried to reconstruct my shattered hip joint, but due to such a complicated break, he unfortunately failed causing infection and had to re open me up and take out the hardware. I was then transfered onto a private jet out to Santa Monica where Dr. Matta performed a very successful reconstruction surgery on my hip. However, due to the first surgery performed in Phoenix, Dr. Matta didn't have much bone to work with and it caused my left leg to be 3/4 of an inch shorter causing a limp, and unfortunately I now have arthritis growing in my lower back.

When leaving the hospital I was told I would eventually have arthritis in my knee cap, and by the age of 30 I would possibly need a knee replacement. I was also told that within 15-20 years I would most likely need a hip replacement as well. After going through a few months of physical therapy, learning how to walk all over again and regain strength in my legs, I was finally able to walk (with a slight limp) but incapable of jogging, running, playing sports, hiking, and other resrictions. At one point in time the Doctor almost amputated my leg due to not being able to find a pulse, so I'm very thankful to be alive and walking again!
The pain was minimal up until March of 2013, I started having intense pain and stiffness in my hip, making it difficult for me to walk. I went to my Ortho and had multiple X Rays done and an MRI, but my Ortho here wasn't able to figure out what was causing this pain. Then in Novemeber 2013, the pain became even worse and I could barely walk on my left leg. I had to start using a walker and crutches to get around, my leg is very weak and there is a large amount of scar tissue and inflammation in my hip. My mother got the idea to send the xrays out to my original hip surgeon, Dr. Matta, to see if he could tell me what was going on, and he emailed me back confirming it was time for a total hip replacement. My Ortho here said I have one shot at this operation and he believes it would be in my best interest to go back to my original hip surgeon Dr. Matta in Santa Monica. The reason being that this isn't a normal hip replacement, it is a 2 stage surgery with removal of the old hardware, and then an anterior hip replacement, and since Dr. Matta performed the first operation he is familiar with my hip and the procedure I need. I've also been told by another Ortho surgeon here in town, that I should have my hip surgery performed by Dr. Matta. Dr. Matta doesn't take insurance and his price is $7500 up front, and the insurance deductible for the hospital is $3500, which totals my out of pocket costs of $11,000.

I'm a single mother raising 3 girls and had to quit work on January 31st of this year due to the pain being too intense and my mobility restrictions. I was talking to a friend on facebook about how I can't afford the costs of this surgery, and that's when my Aunt Laura oversaw our convo and she surprised me by setting up this fundraising site! If you can please help by any donation you feel comfortable with, or sharing my site with others, and prayers please I would greatly appreciate it. This hip replacement should relieve my pain, put me back to work full time, and let me enjoy life more fully again with my 3 daughters! This surgery is scheduled for April 30, 2014. My family and I thank you and may God bless you! <3
