MAKALA, amazing young Oakland comrade needs support for college!
Dear comrades and family,
Did you ever get to go to college or do something that you wanted to do so badly to enrich yourself and grow as a person? Did you ever get some support to help you do that? Did you ever suffer because you didn't get support? If you understand and you are able, please consider donating to this small fundraiser to raise money to help our comrade Kala, a young strong politicized womyn born and raised in Oakland, make it through this semester at Santa Monica City College!!
If you've ever been on financial aid at school you know that it's really hard in those first months before the check comes in, and then when it comes in it's nowhere near enough. And if you don't have someone who can support you financially during the in-between, sometimes it can make you give up altogether, or take a huge toll on your grades, your health, etc.
Kala is getting about $2,100.00, the most financial aid you can get at a city college in CA, to last her 4 months. Rent is $500/mo, so that depletes it altogether. She saved some money but has already used it up on move-in costs, textbooks, and transportation (the school gives free transit cards but only for certain buses that don't go to where Kala lives!).
We've estimated her costs and believe she will need $1,980 more to make it through the end of the semester and finish buying her required textbooks. More would of course help her live more relaxed and buy better food, but this will get her through!
Let's be Kala's extended family and help her out with a lil! She is an amazing brilliant powerful young Black queer woman from Oakland who has been involved in wonderful political work over the last years and is going to do amazing things in this world! She is loving and warm and brings good people together. She has a loving family who, because of this messed up world, isn't able to support her financially. So let's do some mutual aid.

She is studying photography, business, and english, and looks forward to doing womens studies and moving on to a 4-year college.
