Recently, Auburn High School's Advanced Placement United States Government & Politics class competed in an academically demanding event known as the We the People State Competition, hosted by Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. After a long day, and twelve outstanding speeches and questions, Auburn was named Massachusetts We the People champions. As state champions, Auburn High School will represent Massachusetts at the national level on April 25-28 in Washington, D.C.
We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution provides students with the opportunity to utilize and expand upon their knowledge regarding civic education by simulating congressional hearings. This program is the most extensive educational program in the country that prepares young adults to be active and informed citizens who are able to contribute to the betterment of society. While this trip will be both an excellent learning experience as well as an outstanding opportunity to represent Massachusetts at a national level, the expense to participate is our first challenge to attend. We are attempting to fundraise $47,000, which will provide 35 students this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. As a part of this process, we are asking businesses, individuals, and organizations within Massachusetts to aid us in this endeavor. We greatly appreciate all donations, and your contribution will help us immensely in reaching our goal.
