Tommy Kim Brain Cancer Fund

Tommy Kim was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma, a cancerous and malignant brain tumor on Jan 27, 2014. Tommy will undergo a brain resection surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible before starting radiation and chemotherapy treatment. As with all brain surgeries, the impact on his cognitive and motor abilities is uncertain. Hence his ability to support himself in the future is uncertain as well. This type of brain tumor is fast growing and has a 100% recurrence rate, therefore Tommy faces a lifelong battle. Subsequent surgeries and ongoing treatment are highly likely. Just as Tommy's medical battle will be ongoing, so will his financial burden. Tommy's family is now looking to raise money to pay for the medical expenses and to support his health regimen as he enters a period of intensive treatments.

For those who don't know Tommy as well as others, here's a little bio...Tommy was born on March 5, 1980, in Atlanta, Georgia. Tommy graduated from Colorado State University where he played collegiate lacrosse. Following the tragic events of 9/11, Tommy sought to fulfill his patriotic duty by enlisting in US Army in 2002 after graduation. However while overseas on a mission he fell off a 30 ft cliff and endured temporary paralysis from the waist down. Doctors told him that he may not walk again. Undaunted, Tommy endured months of grueling physical therapy to overcame the paralysis and prove the doctors wrong. After being medically discharged from the US Army, he pursued a career in anesthesia by attending South University in Savannah, Georgia. While in school, he completed 2 sprint triathlons to further demonstrate his return to health and full strength. Upon graduating from South University with a Master of Medical Science in Anesthesia, Tommy worked at St.Josephs/Candler Hospital in Savannah, Georgia as an anesthetist, placing patients to sleep for surgery. In 2013 he joined Scott & White Hospital in Austin, Texas where he is currently located.

As many who know him would attest, he is already one of the most resilient, strong-willed and courageous persons on Planet Earth. So, this is just another challenge that he will face and conquer. But he will not go it alone, as he is surrounded by a fierce army of family and friends. WE will come together and provide support, love, laughter and inspiration to him:and each other. WE will share with each other, lift each other up and fight our way to victory. Tommy is one person, but together WE are much more powerful. Together WE are strong:TOMMY STRONG.
