Cure Caleb

Hi everyone, I want to thank you first for even clicking on the link and taking the time to read this. Asking for help financially is always a humbling thing for anyone. First and foremost, I'd like to tell my story.

I became ill in August of 2010, and by October 2010 I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Pancolitis, a very severe form of Ulcerative Colitis. It is a very similar disease to Crohn's Disesase. I had become severely anemic, dropped down to 85 pounds, and was hospitalized at Cook's Children hospital in 2010 where I was diagnosed. Through treatment I've greatly improved since then, but I've never been in full remission.

I've been told before that there is no cure and that remission depended on me taking 2400 mgs of medication daily, sometimes including more through corticosteroid treatment, or by surgical procedure. For personal reasons I'd rather not have surgery as it is a permanent decision and I don't feel like it is the right thing for me.

There is treatment that they have not yet approved for Ulcerative Colitis in the United States. It is done throughout the world in other countries, and the cure rate is about 90% in the countries in which they do this treatment. The FDA has approved it for Clostridium Difficile patients and they have done studies for patients with Crohn's Disease in the United States. They have approved for Dr. Richard Kellermayer in Houston to perform a study with 5 patients, of which I am to be the third.

Dr. Kellermayer will be working with Texas Children's Hospital and the study will be sponsored by Baylor College of Medicine. The study will take the greater part of the year, part of which I will be living in Houston. The study pays for almost all of the medical procedures besides the lab and blood work. As far as insurance co-pays for the lab work, living expenses, housing expenses, travel expenses, and some more possible unforeseen expenses we are paying for out of pocket.

We are unsure of the ability to pay for all of this, so we turn to our friends and family for help and support. We aren't positive how much this will all cost, so we are starting with what we know we'll have to pay. Any donation, big or small, is greatly appreciated and helps support and pay for this treatment. Any emotional and spiritual support is greatly appreciated as well.

Thank you for the support and love that I have received so far and that I continue to receive. I love you all.
