My name is Ebenezer Degu, and I am an ambitious international student from Ethiopia, studying at Messiah College for my bachelor's degree in International Business.
Being an international student in the U.S., I am unable to take any loans to assist me in paying the expensive tuition fees. My father's and mother's employment were both terminated soon after my first year at Messiah, leaving them, and me, in a tough position. They are doing all they can to support my two sisters and me but have struggled to find a stable income.

For the past three semesters since, I have strained to make the payments to keep me in school. I have reduced my tuition fees as much as possible by eliminating a meal plan, traditional housing, and even the school's health insurance. I currently hold four jobs on campus, amidst my studies, to keep myself afloat. I have remained in school this long through God's providence and the generosity I have received from sponsors.

I have grown in my passion for my country, Ethiopia, while I have attended Messiah. My aspiration has always been to go back and implement some change and growth, and the path I will take seems to be forming at my feet. After seeing the kindness instilled on me by those supporting my education, I plan to do the same to others. I hope to support many in Ethiopia that lack the opportunity to be educated and successful by promoting entrepreneurship and planting small businesses. With almost 45% of the population being under the age of 15, I believe the timing of my education and experience will be significant to impact the youth at a crucial age.

In order to accomplish these things, I humbly request your willingness to support my education. College tuition has continuously become more expensive, making it increasingly difficult to maintain my student status. Any small amount would be a significant help. Derek Bok, former president of Harvard University, said, "If you think education is expensive, try ignorance." I believe this to be true, and no matter the expense of school, I will work vigorously to stay in it.

My need for immediate assistance is urgent. I am required to have the bill paid for my past semester (Fall 2013) before I can register and attend any classes for my next semester, beginning this February. Because of the financials strains on the school, they are unable to work with me and give me any further extentions. Without a significant decrease in my account by February 14 (last day to add a class), I will be forced to stop my schooling and promptly leave the United States within 30 days. This halt in my education could be a significant barrier in my life and the lives I hope to change.

I thank you for your willingness to help! May God continue to bless you as you have blessed me!
