OTAG's FREE YOUTH ART WORKSHOPS
Donation protected
On Saturday July 25th, 2015 we hosted our first all youth professional art show ages 4-18 "if I ruled the world…"
For a little over a month, 18 youth artists began working with mentors in preparation for this show. The insights, conversations, and visions that sprang out of the first workshop created the conceptual foundation for each artist’s set of works. During the second workshop, the mentees worked tirelessly on artistic technique, writing bios, pricing work, and developing their ideas to speak as strongly as possible.
The art in the show is their vision of the future, their assessment of the present, keen observations of the past, and what could bridge all these realities.
Some artists chose to view the theme solely through the lens, “If I ruled the world.” Others chose to convey what they like about the world alongside what they dislike, with the invitation to imagine what they would do if they were in charge. Still other artists combined several of these lenses into each of their complex pieces.
We are very excited about all the elements of this show: the exhibition itself (for many of the artists, it is their first professional show), a Q & A panel with youth artists, silent auction of amazing donated work from prominent creators, as well as performances from Bay Area young people, and food from a youth catering crew.Building connections through art is one way we can remember our responsibilities to every living generation, and the generations yet to come.
The show has two main goals:
1. To create a platform for youth artists to have the ability to display their art and learn the process of becoming a professional artist.
2. Fundraiser kick off to make possible semmi-annual youth art shows and FREE monthly youth art workshops led by local professionals in various art disciplines .
We are asking all of our community members to donate $10 Our $3,000 goal will help fund Instructors & art materials for 120 youth ages 5-18 from August-November 2015.
