In direct response to the announcement made January 9th by the representatives of the Archdiocese of Chicago that St. Florian School would close after this school year, St. Florian Catholic School has launched a campaign to raise sufficient funds to come up with a balanced budget to keep the school open.
For over ten years the Archdiocese of Chicago has supported the school with $2,000 for every enrolled student. Due to the current fiscal situation, the Archdiocese is not able to continue providing operational funds. Over the last two years, our staff has worked diligently to bring our deficit down from $300,000 to $200,000 – a wonderful effort, but one that unfortunately falls short.
School, parish, alumni, businesses, and friends have come together as a community to develop a strategic business plan so that we can continue to provide a well-rounded, Catholic education for our children. The Saint Florian Guardian Angel plan has been presented to the Archdiocese and they have agreed to keep St. Florian open if we prove the plan to be self-sustainable.
The Save Saint Florian School Committee has asked all current families to commit to an increase in tuition of $1,200 per year to account for part of next years’ deficit. We will rely on 3 year donations from ‘Angels,’ and elite sponsorship from local businesses as well as large school fundraising events to fill the rest. We are asking Angels to commit to a 3 year donation of $1,200 a year to match the tuition increase for each student and businesses for a 3 year commitment in the amount of their choice. This GoFundMe account was made available for online donors who cannot fully commit to being an Angel.
As a St. Florian School supporter your donation will help put our school on firm financial footing so that we can continue the excellent work that is happening in our classrooms. For 108 years St. Florian School has graduated students from diverse families to uniform success. Ninety-seven percent of our 8th graders graduate from high school, and 90% pursue a college degree. Presently, our test scores are the highest in the deanery, and competitive with the best grammar schools, public and private, in Southeast Chicago and Northwest Indiana. We continue to improve our curriculum: this year our students are benefitting from the STEM program which focuses science, technology, engineering, and math - important skills to have in creating tomorrow’s workforce.
Our goal is to be here next fall and the fall after that, serving many future generations of SFS Blazers. Your investment in St. Florian can keep our doors open, keep the highest academic standards in our community, and pay dividends for years to come. Please help.
