Amina Needs a Disabled Equipped Home

Donation protected

As the parents of a child with complete disability, we have a lot of responsibilities, daily struggles and are constantly looking for opportunities to enable our child to live as "normal" a life as possible. After what was considered a perfect pregnancy, the traumatic events which occurred after admission into the hospital ready to give birth created Amina's medical ailments.

A CAT scan revealed brain abnormalities and Amina was diagnosed with Cerebral Ischemia, Spastic quadriplegia (which means she cannot use her legs and arms) including severe tightness in her muscles, coupled with developmental delay, severe scoliosis, dysphagia with chronic aspiration, GERD (Gastro Esphageal Reflux Disease), seizure disorder, mental retardation and traumatic brain injury.

Amina was expected to die during the first week of birth. However, our faith coupled with our unconditional love for our child, the support of family, friends and medical staff, has now allowed Amina to celebrate 15 years of life.

Each day can mean life or death for Amina as she feeds daily through tubes and requires oxygen and suction to keep her lungs clear. She suffers from seizures and requires 24/7 care and attention.

As Amina's parents,  our main wish is to enable Amina to live a better quality of life in a disabled equipped home which will allow us, and her caregivers to properly care for her within an accessible, healthier and accommodating environment to allow easy mobility.

Amina Bah has been living, since birth, in a two-bedroom, first floor apartment building with no wheelchair access ramps preventing her easy access to the outdoors. At 15 years of age now, Amina fully occupies one room of this two bedroom apartment which is set-up as a hospital room with oxygen tanks, and other medical equipment to monitor her breathing and other life functions.

Amina has not been able to access the bathroom, as the wheelchair cannot go through the narrow doors, therefore, Amina has been bed-bathed since 2009 till now. To wash her hair, hoyer-lifted into her wheelchair, then wheeled into the kitchen to wash her hair in the kitchen sink. She depends on Hoyerlift to move her from her bed to her wheelchair and back again to bed.

We are a family originally from Guinea-Conakry, in West Africa, and believe in America enough to become naturalized citizens. We also believe in working hard to achieve our goals and while we are working hard to get even the basics of shelter, food and clothing for the family of four, we may never have gotten even the basics, if we were not strong minded and always determined. This determination also means to continue to find new and efficient ways to help us provide better care and a better living environment for our daughter, Amina and we believe that Gofundme.com, will be the vehicle to make this happen.

We are the Bah family, and we are asking for your help to secure a disabled equipped home for Amina. We notice that when we are able to take her outdoors, she reacts in her own way when she feels the breeze, and truly enjoys such a simple pleasure. How wonderful for Amina if we are able to take her outside to enjoy this life, on a daily basis.

Amina needs your donation of an amount large or small through gofundme.com. You will embrace, appreciate and contribute to Amina's continued struggle to live another day which can be increased by her having the proper facilities in a home that is equipped to allow this to happen.

Amina Bah is our Blessing whom we've brought to share with you and we hope that she inspires your life too, as she has forever enlightened and inspired ours. Amina deserves a disabled equipped home. she deserves to fully live as "normal" a life as we are determined to secure for her, it is our dream for our beautiful daughter, who continues to survive, against all odds. We are counting on you to help us realize this dream for her! Thank you wholeheartedly for your concern and generosity! The Bah family is ever grateful!
