Be a part of a growing and exciting sport in the United States...SUMO!

While only professional sumo can be found in Japan, amateur sumo has taken the world by storm. With competitors in countries world wide, some even sponsored by their country's Olympic committees, the United States has only begun to take it's place in the international sumo scene. The United States Sumo Federation (USSF) (http://www.americansumo.org/) and the California Sumo Association in Los Angeles (http://www.usasumo.com/), in addition to other USSF clubs throughout the country, are dedicated to bringing new athletes and supporters to the sport of Sumo within the US.

With your contribution you can help support the 2015 US National Champion lightweight female SUMO wrestler Jenelle Hamilton! Funds help cover costs associated with training, travel and competition fees for upcoming 2016 national and international tournaments.  2016 is a big year for sumo as Nationals qualifies athletes not only for the 2016 World Championships in Mongolia, but also the 2017 SportAccord Combat Games in Peru and the 2017 World Games in Poland!

Jenelle competed in the 2014 US Sumo Nationals in Jackson, Wyoming in June. She earned the gold in both lightweight (65kg/143 pounds and less) and open weight (open to competitors of all weight categories) divisions. She successfully retained her lightweight championship title at the 2015 US Sumo Nationals.  Taking first place earned her a position on the US National Team and her right to represent the United States in the lightweight division at the 11th Annual Women's World Sumo Championships in Osaka, Japan later this summer.

Over the past six years, Jenelle has competed in multiple events throughout the states and has represented the United States in both SportAccord Combat Games in Beijing, China (2010) and St. Petersburg, Russia (2013) and the 10th Annual Women's World Sumo Championships in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in 2014.

Following her appearance in Taiwan, Jenelle participated in the 2014 US Sumo Open brining home the gold in the lightweight division (undefeated) and the bronze in the openweight, losing only to the New Zealand middleweight.  Jenelle remained undeafeted in 2015 and was named the US Open lightweight and open weight competitor, which included winning matches against a lightweight Mongolian competitor.

Lightweight competitor Jenelle Hamilton has been featured in an online article by ESPNW (http://espn.go.com/espnw/athletes-life/article/13788217/most-unlikely-sumo-wrestler-ever-see)

Thank you for your support of female athletes and all athletes of this world-reknowned sport, which is steadily growing here in the United States thanks to its athletes and caring supporters.  Our athletes are regularly burdened with the high costs associated with traveling to national and international competitions.  Your consideration of making a monetary donation to help cover these costs is greatly appreciated.
