6 challenges in 6 months

Donation protected
My aim is to raise money for Live Life Give Life charity and The Isabella Rose Foundation. I am doing this in honour of Violet-Grace Youens. Violet-Grace was tragically killed by a stolen car in a hit-and-run in St Helens. Merseyside, in March 2017. Violet-Grace courageously went on to save lives by donating her organs. I am splitting the money I raise between two charities. Live Life Give Life Charity who raise awareness of organ donation, and the remarkable gift of life organ donation can give to others. The second half of the money will be donated to The Isabella-Rose Foundation who supports bereaved families and charities surrounding baby loss and child death.

Live Life Give Life Charity

What We Do

As a charity we hope to encourage people to register as organ donors via awareness campaigns, events and activities.

By encouraging people to talk about organ donation and exchange views on the subject, whether or not they have been directly affected, the whole concept has become less taboo and more a celebration of what could be – and how uplifting it could feel to know that, as a donor, you might possibly save a number of other lives. Similarly, we hope that relatives of those who have donated their organs will draw comfort from the wider knowledge that their loved ones live on by way of helping others to achieve their dreams.

LLGL also funds initiatives to improve the welfare of (and outcome for) patients in need or receipt of organ tissue transplants, in addition to supporting the public recognition of donors and their families.

We believe that united we are stronger, which is why we are proud to work closely with other transplant organisations such as UK Transplant (UKT), previously more familiar as NHSBT, and The Donor Family Network.  In addition we continue to support research at both Newcastle Institute of Transplantation and Imperial College (WLRTC - West London Renal & Transplant Centre).

By raising awareness we can, ultimately, help to save lives.

The Isabella-Rose Foundation

About the Foundation

Isabella Rose Foundation was formed in 2011 in memory of our angel Isabella Rose Parr, a beautiful little girl who was born asleep at 31 weeks on the 16th October 2011.

This has been devastating time for her family especially for her parents Geoff Parr and Amanda Pope.

The love and support we have all received from family members and friends has been overwhelming and the family decided that they would like to do something in Isabella's memory.

It was decided to set up this Foundation to help other people who have experienced not only the tragedy of a stillborn baby but also families who have premature births.

The Isabella Rose Team will attempt to do this by raising much needed funds through various fundraising events and by taking part in different sporting challenges. By doing this we will attempt to gain sponsorship.

Geoff and Amanda have now selected three organisations who they want to benefit from all the proceeds raised.

The three organisations are:

The Whiston Hospital Maternity Bereavement Fund

Bliss the premature baby Charity.

Tommy's Baby Charity.

My Challenges to Raise Money for Both Charities

I will be undertaking a series of six challenges in six months, each of which are out of my comfort zone, from an endurance perspective. I have never done anything as physically, mentally and emotionally demanding before. I will be participating in The Liverbird Double Marathon (two marathons in two days) on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. On 8th April 2018 I will be taking part in The Greater-Manchester Marathon, with my target time of breaking my previous record of 3 hours and 15 minutes. In addition, on 20th May 2018 I will be completing The Southport Open Water Triathlon (distance 750 m open water swim, 20k bike ride and a 5k run). On 3rd June 2018 I will be joined by Violet’s dad Glenn Youens and my friend Paul Lockett in The 82 mile Roman Road Challenge (82 miles cycle, including 4500ft of accent; but to push the boundaries further, we will be adding an additional 18 mile independent cycle on the same day, to make the total to 100 miles). Finally, I will be completing The Great North Swim in Lake Windermere (1 mile open swim). Just to put my challenges in perspective, I’m a terrified of open water which has been a life-long fear, however I am determined to overcome this fear and raise as much money and awareness as possible for both amazing charities. These charities need funds in order to continue to do the amazing work they do for others.

Just to update my challenge page.

Unfortunately I was involved in a road traffic accident last week (the other driver ran a red light) as a result of this, I am suffering from back injuries. I therefore have no chance of running the Liverbird Double marathon. I am absolutely gutted about this!!!
To make up for missing these 2 marathons, I have added the Chicago marathon - 7th October and the Snowdonia marathon 27th October to complete the 6 challenges in 6 months. I hope you understand, but I simply can't run a yard at the moment.
