Ashlee was diagnosed with FSGS (Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis) at the age of 12. FSGS is a type of kidney disease in which scar tissue forms on the glomeruli (small blood vessels in the kidney that filter wastes). This can cause nephrotic syndrome, which can lead to long-term kidney damage if left untreated.
We were told from the moment we found out that she would need a transplant. December 1, 2008 she got a kidney transplant. December 12, 2013 we found out that her body was going through transplant rejection. Transplant rejection is a process in which a transplant recipient's immune system attacks the transplanted organ or tissue.
The money raised will be used for expenses not covered by her insurance.
