Hi. My name is Patrick Shannon and I am seeking help for my brother, William "Bil" Shannon who lives in San Diego County, California . In 2000, Bil suffered an injury to his neck and back while at work at SunMicrosystems Inc. This resulted in surgery over a year later. He then again had another work injury in 2002 which intensified and worsened the neck and back injuries. This also resulted in yet another surgery, leaving Bil disabled and not able to work. Finally in 2004 he was declared permanent and stationary.
Before his accidents, Bil was an avid bicyclist, living a normal and fruitful life in perfect health, with a lucrative job as a research & development computer technician. He has now spent the last 13 years of his life in chronic pain and fighting insurance companies for the treatment he needs and is entitled to, some of which he is still not receiving. He was the recipient of a surgery that deemed him disabled even more and cannot be corrected to this day. At one point, the insurance company was speculating that he would not live more than a year. He is still in excruciating pain, and is limited in the use/mobility of his arms/hands.
His surgeries resulted in the placement of titanium struts and screws in his neck and spine. Bone, from his pelvic area, was used in one of the surgeries which has left him in severe pain when trying to walk and cannot be corrected.
At this time, Bil, who is 64, is living on SSI and is not able to make ends meet. He is on the verge of losing his home which would prove to be disastrous to him, both physically and mentally. He went through the anxiety of his wife walking out and leaving him, when she could no longer deal with his disabilities, causing him to be in a state close to poverty.
I am making a plea for help to raise money to help him save his home, allowing him to live out the rest of his life in the comfort of his home. He has lost so much in the last 13 years, his love of bicycling, working and most importantly the freedom of being able to function on a daily basis without pain and suffering.
Unfortunately, Bil's family are 2,000 miles away and not in any position financially to help. I am asking you to please, read his story again and help in any way you can, even the smallest donation would be a blessing.
