Career taken away after 25 years

Donation protected

Let me introduce myself, my name is Stacy (pic. right, my sister is on the left) and my story is about a wonderful, loving, caring, hard working person...my mother, Mariah (pic. center).  For 25 years my mom dedicated herself to a corporation, Albertsons grocery store (who became Haggens in May of 2015).  On July 20th, 2015 my mother went into work, punched in at the time clock, only to discover her pin was invalid.  She walked upstairs and met with the store director who told my mother she was no longer needed.  Imagine, 25 years taken from you just like that.  She did nothing wrong and was technically laid-off due to poor sales. All together 20+ people were let go.

Here is her story....

As some may know, Albertsons purchased Safeway earlier this year.  My mother started her career at Albertson's in Prescott, AZ the day they opened the store.  However, in order for Albertsons purchase to go through, they had to sale X amount of stores.  A company by the name of Haggens decided to purchase the Albertsons stores in the west.  Haggens is a grocery store mainly in the east.  So the purchases were complete and the store my mother worked in became Haggens.

Albertsons vs. Haggens

My mother decided to make her position at Albertsons her career.  She was hired as the florest for the Prescott,AZ store in 1990.  She grew as an employee and moved to the produce department where she spent most of her 25 years.  She also learned other positions in the store.  During her employement with Albertsons, my mother fought through cancer.  Albertsons supported my mother through this tough time.  When my mother was cleared to work again, she still had her job with Albertsons.  She also went through a knee and foot surgery while still keeping her career at Albertsons.  Although my mother has Polymyalgia rheumatica ( an inflammatory disorder that is painful), she continued to be a devoted employee for Albertsons and Albertsons never gave up on her.

Once Albertsons changed to Haggens, my mother began seeing that Haggens was nothing like Albertsons.  For starters, the new store had much higher prices than Albertsons.  For example; a package of bacon at Walmart is $2.99, the same exact bacon package at Haggens is $6.99.  The regular shoppers from Albertsons were not coming around anymore.  The first week Haggens opened, the customer volume had been cut by more then half the size it was the week before.  She could notice Haggens was not trying.  No efforts were made to create a good sales ad.  Within the first 4 weeks of being open, a few people were laid-off.  My mother questioned why.  Why was Haggen not doing anything to help keep their employees?  She knew Albertsons would have already been doing everything to make sales happen and keep customers happy.  Haggens did not care.  They do not care about their employees or their customers!  The money sucking corparate bullies had to make sure their big checks came through for them instead of taking care of the people who work for them. However, someone with a long career at a corparation should not have to worry about losing their job because the "big wigs" can't do their job right.  Her career of 25 years was ruined within 40 days.

Hoping for

I am asking for help from the great people of America.  If we all can come together to help one another, we can make a huge impact on one's life.  My mother is only 59 years young.  She was planning her retirement and hoping to make it to the age of 62.  I am hoping to raise enough money to help my mother make payments for her mortgage and other bills.  If my goal is reached, the mortgage can be paid for at least 10 months.  We are also looking into moving my mother to my home.  The funds raised will also help with moving costs.  Any donated amount is greatly appreciated.  If everyone that reads this story donates at least $1.00, it will add up quickly.

Thank you

Thank you to all who donate.  We are forever greatful.
