To offset Windspeaker's postal costs
Donation protected
These funds will assist in Windspeaker's continuing efforts to produce and distribute Indigenous news and information to Indigenous people and communities throughout Canada - particularly those in more isolated regions.
Windspeaker is a part of the Aboriginal Multi-Media Society (AMMSA) - a non-profit society. AMMSA has published and distributed Windspeaker non-stop since 1983.
For the past 20 years Windspeaker regularly received assistance with its postal costs (like many publications produced in Canada) via a postal subsidy through Canadian Heritage. This postal subsidy had helped offset Windspeaker's substantial mailing/distribution costs, but since 2009 that subsidy has been virtually eliminated dropping from $109,000 per year to just $2,480 in 2013!
Funds raised through this campaign will help publish and distribute Windspeaker to communities that have limited access to Indigenous news and information; limited resources for subscriptions and limited internet access.
Thank you.
