Lost Everything To Tax Scam

Hi, my name is Shauna and I have been friends with Jim and Dawn for several years now. I want to start off by saying that they are one of the most appreciative, genuine and kind hearted people I have ever known who have been dealt quite a rough hand.
They live in a small apartment and do not own a computer or a car. Their health issues have them in and out of doctors offices and hospitals more times than I can count. The stress and worry is compounded by the fact that they have to keep such a tight budget and depend on others to help them get to their destinations. Somehow, through everything, they always have the most wonderful smiles on their faces every time I see them.
Each year they work hard to save every extra penny possible to hopefully take one small local vacation per year. Just a little getaway to take their minds off their daily struggles. This was the year it was needed most as it has been their roughest by far. Unfortunately, those plans were yanked out from under them when they became victims of a phone tax scam early this year.

The scammers target anyone, but most commonly the elderly and disabled. They were so scared from the threats of fines and prison that they withdrew everything they had and sent it to the thieves. A worker at the bank noticed Dawn's distress and realized they were being scammed but by then the money was already gone.
When I heard their story I was so sick to my stomach and heartbroken. Here are two people who have faced adversity since childhood and have to work so hard to find happiness in any way they can. It took one person to erase all of their hard work and ruin the only thing they had to look forward to this year.
Jim and Dawn have been such wonderful friends and have enriched my life so much. I am hoping we can raise enough to replace what was stolen and give them back their opportunity to have some fun and make new happy memories. They truly deserve it!
