I'm so sorry it's been awhile since I have made an update here (I forget that not everyone can see my Facebook updates). We have completed our Home Study and have applied with USCIS. While we are waiting on that approval we are also working to complete our dossier (which is a fancy word for a truckload of documents that need to be submitted to Evan's country for approval). Once we have USCIS back, we can submit our dossier and then we wait :-) We have another $4500 payment due when we submit our dossier. Currently we have $800 in his account (just paid $900 to USCIS) and are looking to raise $3700. Thank you so much to everyone for your help, your donations, and your prayers. This is a long, tiring (and expensive) journey but we are all chipping away one day at a time. Much love to you all
Great news to report! Thanks to all of your help, we were able to meet our first goal of $8,000! Agency fees are paid and we are now officially on our way :-) Our next goal is to raise another $4500 which will go toward the international attorney fees. We will have several months before this has to be paid. Thank you so much for sticking with us and for your support, prayers, and words of encouragement!!
We are less than $1000 away from our first goal (of $8,000)!! We are so excited because that means we are one step closer to bringing Evan home!! Things are just about to get really good :-)
I posted all of the funds we have to date for Evan's adoption so you can see where we are. We are sooo close to our initial goal of $8,000! This will allow us to officially secure him through the agency and will then allow us to apply for grants. Can you help us make it over this hump? Happy New Year!!
There was Black Friday...and Cyber Monday...today is Giving Tuesday. I ask, that when you think of which charity to give to, that you consider a little boy in Eastern Europe who desperately needs a family...and HOPE. Unlike other big name charities, 100% of your donation will go towards saving a child's life! Sweet Evan has probably never had a Christmas present...what a better gift than giving him the gift of family. Thank you so much!!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone....this year we have MANY new friends to be thankful for
Thanksgiving is this week...and we are ABSOLUTELY thankful for everyone who have selflessly donated money, who have offered words of encouragement, who have prayed for our family, and who have shared our story! This past week was amazing!! We have felt the love and support and cannot put into words the gratitude we feel
We are SPEECHLESS!! The amount of love and support that has poured in over the past 24 hours is astounding. Thanks to everyone from the bottom of our hearts...not just saying that....REALLY mean it!!
Help us raise money to bring Evan home! If everyone we knew gave just $1 and then told everyone they knew to come give $1...then we'd be fully funded in no time and could go bring this sweet boy HOME with us where he belongs
We are Christe, Raymundo, and Laura Orta. For the past 7 years we have been content to be a family of 3. However, recently, God placed a mission on our hearts that we are unable to avoid :-)
Meet Evan! He is a 2 year old little boy who lives in Eastern Europe. His parents abandoned him at 1-month old because he has Down Syndrome. Each day since he has been lying a crib with no hope for a future, no one to hold him, no one to call him their own.
We recently became aware of the conditions that children with disabilities face in certain countries...life behind crib bars, no medical care, diapers changed and fed broth maybe once a day, never held or taken outside. We learned that these children waste away in these orphanages until they are 5 years old and then they are transferred to an adult institution where they may live to see their 6th birthday. Most children die within a year of being institutionalized.
Some people ask us why we want to travel half way around the world to adopt a child when there are many here in the US who need a home....the answer is simple...this is where God is sending us. There are no country borders when it comes to love and acceptance. A child in need is a child in need, no matter what country they may have been born into. (Also, just for FYI purposes...we have tried twice to go through our local social services and were met with roadblock after roadblock)
We fell in love with Evan the moment we saw his sweet face on Reece's Rainbow (a site that helps to advocate and raise $$ for the adoption of children in need). Since then we have been on a mission to raise enough money to be able to break him free of a life of hopelessness and bring him home to be a part of our family. In our eyes, he is our son.
The total estimated cost to complete Evan's adoption is about $35,000. So far we have raised almost $7000. We need your help! We have a loving home where we will be able to love, care, and raise him. We have medical insurance to cover his health care and therapies once the adoption is final. Christie is an Early Childhood Special Education teacher and has many years of experience working with children with disabilities (including Down Syndrome). What we don't have is $35,000 in our back pocket to pull out to make this adoption possible.
Please do some research for yourself and see how children are being treated half a world away. Maybe you are not in a position to adopt a child yourself...but maybe you are in a position to help a child find a home. Maybe you are in a position to give $5 or maybe $50 or maybe more. 100% of donations received will go toward Evan's adoption. If, God willing, we raise more than we need for Evan's adoption, the remaining money will be donated to another family in our position...another family in the position to adopt but just needs a helping hand to get there.
We thank you from the bottom of our heart for anything that you would be willing to contribute...even if you are only able to share our story with your friends and family. No child deserves to live a life this way...all children deserve hope and a loving family. God Bless!
