Rattan 4th Graders Go to Austin, TX

We are very proud of the fact that our 4th graders have been going to the Texas State Capitol for FREE, the last 5 years. As a team, we work extremely hard to raise enough money to provide this opportunity for 100% of our students. Most of our students have never traveled in their lives and it is such a fantastic way to tie an academic experience to their first exposure to a road trip!
This is a 1 day round trip to Austin, Texas. We charter buses through Roadrunner Charters and this year we will need 3 56 passenger busses. This is a luxury and the students get to experience a once in a lifetime opportunity. The buses cost approximately $1850 each. The museum and the Texas State Capitol buildings are free for our students to get into.

The Bob Bullock Historical Museum is a phenomenal experience for our kids! There are 3 floors of the museum. The first floor covers American Indians, European exploration and colonization, Texas colonization, and westward expansion content is now unavailable while the first floor is under renovation to provide a new interpretive approach to the encounters between the French, Spanish, and regional American Indians that influenced global history and laid the foundation for Texas's own unique story. The second floor covers much of the Texas Revolution and beginnings of Texas government and settlement of Texas land. The third floor moves through to the 20th-21st century Texas.
On our way home from Austin, we make a stop in Georgetown, Texas at Cici's Pizza. We have always covered the cost of this meal. They charge us $6 per student and staff member. We are budgeting for 150 students and staff at $6 a meal totaling $900.
Lastly, each year we have been able to raise enough money to provide a field trip shirt for all of our students and staff. We are budgeting approximately $930 for shirts.
The total amount that we are estimating for the cost of this trip is $7,380 for 150 students and staff members to go to Austin, Texas for the 4th grade field trip.
Our total to raise is $7500 in order to provide a small cushion which allows for the additinal student growth that we are anticipating throughout the school year!
