UCASA TO TANZANIA

The University of Cincinnati's African Students Association, (UCASA), an organization that works to foster a positive image of Africa and her many countries, at the University of Cincinnati. University of Cincinnati's African Student Association promotes: inter-cultural unity and helps bring together people from all ethnic backgrounds by hosting meetings, programs and events that all support and educate people about Africa.

Last year, UCASA, for the first time went on a service learning trip to Cape Coast, Ghana! Some of our goals for UCASA that year were to encourage volunteer and study abroad opportunities in African countries, while promoting educational, social, and cultural awareness. We worked with an NGO which connected us to a school in Ghana. Our project involved assisting teachers in the classroom, helping children one-on-one, and also we raised funds to provide school supplies. The impact of this trip not only in the lives of the people in Ghana, but also in that of the students that participated was tremendous.

This year, from March 13^th "“ 24^th (spring break) UCASA will be going to Tanzania with 12 students! We will be partnering with an organization focused on impacting lives in Tanzania called Village Life Outreach. We will be split up to work on projects centered around Health, Life, and Education. Examples of some projects are:

Ø Women's empowerment sessions
Ø Building a cook stove
Ø Arts and crafts
Ø Language: translating Swahili into English
Ø Building a fence
Ø Clean water project
Ø Health education
Ø Nutrition project

Being that one of UCASA's missions is to undertake projects that lead to the advancement of Africa. We believe that we have a responsibility to give back and encourage the future leaders of Africa. UCASA is dedicated to ensuring that people are given an education and provided with necessary amenities.
