Latest update on Dave from Sam:
"Day 42- surgery #9- skin graft #2 Thank you Lord for great surgeons!! Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9"
God is so good, all of the time! Thank you all for your prayers and your donations. They still have a long way to go, so please consider donating some small amount to help them. The bills for November are due back home, and it costs for Sam to stay here and be by her husbands side while he undergoes many more skin grating surgeries.
God Bless! : )
I went to Tampa to see Dave today, and celebrate Sam's birthday with her. It was great to see and talk with him. He was tired and weak, but coherent and knew what was going on. A few minutes after I got there and spoke with him, they took him for surgery. Here is the latest update from Sam this evening after the latest surgery:
"Day 38 I have a follow up correction they did not skin graft last time as expected. Today surgery 8 was an allo graft. Dave has had a lot of pain from this procedure and has needed a lot of pain meds this time. Thank you all for the birthday wishes via fb and texts. I truly believe I have the best friends than anyone in the world. The best gift I could have is my husband has survived and is on his way to recovery. Thank You Jesus xoxox"
To make sure that the grafting will work, it will take some time and more surgeries to completely cover his leg and to heal. He will not be moved home until that is completed, so any donations you can make to help fund Sam's stay here along with their bills at home would be a huge blessing.
Thank you to everyone who has donated, and thank you in advance to everyone who can donate now. Prayers for many blessings to you and yours from God.
"Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ."
Galatians 6:2 NIV
Good morning! I have an update for you all on Dave. Sam came to see me this weekend, and in the midst of that, I got to speak with Dave on the phone. It was so good to hear his voice. He sounded good, yet he is confused and not sure what happened, and is very tired. Although this is tremendous news, he still has a long way to go. The last surgery he had last week did not include skin grafting. That is supposed to start today. Please pray that the procedure goes well and that all future procedures go smoothly, with little pain and quick healing. The earliest they may be able to return home is the end of November. This is still creating a hardship, so please consider donating. Thank you all for your prayers and donations. I pray God will shower you all with many blessings!
"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'"
"Then the righteous will answer him, "˜Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'
"The King will reply, "˜Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'" Matthew 25:35-40 NIV
Latest update on Dave from Sam:
"Day 28: Dave had another surgery this morning, he is gradually getting his strength back. Yesterday therapy got him to sit on the side of bed for a few minutes. Skin grafting next Monday and therapy from now till then. Then rehab after grafting, hopefully we will be home in a month. grateful to GOD"
It will be at least another month that they will be here before Dave can be moved home, and the costs are rising. Please consider donating! Every little bit will help this family get through this trying time. Thank you, and God Bless!
Dave is becoming more coherent every day. He goes in for surgery to do more debridement and start skin grafting today. It is going to be a long road to get skin back on his leg and to be healed enough to head home. Please consider donating, as the bills back home are coming due for the next month and the cost of Sam staying here is adding up. Please be a blessing to this family, and store up your treasure in Heaven! Thank you all, and God Bless!
"The King will reply, "˜Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'" Matthew 25:40 NIV
Good Afternoon! I pray you all are enjoying your weekend. I am sending out another update on Dave here, and asking that you please consider donating. More is needed to help this family out. Here is the latest from Sam:
"Day 24: Dave is a bit more clear today but still sleeping a lot, he got a pint of blood this morning. Becky and Joe nurses on deck today. Joe is off till Tuesday we will miss him and Edna she is a lady who calls on Jesus full time lol!!! we have had them all week. I'm having a Dr. crush on Dr. Mohamad Mustafa, lol, he's older and checks on us every day and is very compassionate about our situation. He explains everything and makes sure that I have no questions or needs before he leaves us, just so nice. The whole floor has become important to us and knows I'm very protective, so beware of the wife in C622, lol. More surgery on Monday or Tuesday. Thank you Lord for all the Angels you have set up around us."
Please consider a small donation to help them keep going. Picture your family on vacation, and something major happens like this. Picture yourself sitting in a chair by a hospital bed, day after day, worried about your spouse's condition, while you are over 1000 miles away from home. Picture your bills piling up back home, and the cost of staying by your loved one's side, being their advocate, praying for healing. Picture not working to bring in any income to cover all of these bills. It is a very stressful, and scary place to be. Any small amount will help. Thanks you!
Thank you to all who have donated so far. This is helping her stay close to the hospital, but now hard decisions have to be made. We can help her make these decisions if we can raise enough money to help them. The costs are rising, so please, please, please consider donating. They are going to need so much to make it through this. God blesses those who help others in need.

Update from Sam:
"Day 23, still foggy, got Dave to eat a few French fries and some juice, they put a pic line in this afternoon for meds. Tomorrow gonna discuss the next step and want to have a meeting with me about staying or transferring to St. Louis. A burn unit would have to have a Dr accept his case. The expensive part would be transport ranging from $8,000.00 and up by ambulance and probably double by air not covered by insurance. Soooo... pray for me to have wisdom weighing all options and what the best for Dave is. Know Jesus- know Peace/ No Jesus- No Peace"
According to Sam, Dave is becoming more coherent, but is confused and wants to leave. They may have to do more debridement surgery before skin grafting can commence. Lots of information for Sam, and lots of decisions to make. Please pray for the doctors to come up with the best plan, for Sam to have peace and clarity in all decisions, and for Dave to become more coherent.
If you have not donated, please consider doing so. The needs are huge, and funds limited. Thank you for considering donating and for prayers!
I am posting here the latest updates on Dave per Sam's posts yesterday and today. They still have a long way to go for healing and for Dave to be able to go home and start rehab. If you have not donated, would you please prayerfully consider donating?
Thank you to everyone who has donated already! Every donation helps Sam not have to worry about the rising costs of staying here in Florida, and the next months bills that are coming due soon back home in Missouri, and instead focus on Dave and his care/healing. May God shower you with many blessings!
Updates on Dave:
"Dave was moved this morning from trauma ICU to the burn unit progressive ward they will begin working on skin grafts. He is still very weak and foggy. "ok Dave is in for final debridement surgery, he is still foggy wants to go home. He still doesn't know what all has happened and was very crabby ruff day mentally I pray more drugs don't increase the fog in Jesus name Amen. Lord help me to remain calm and close to you."
"The King will reply, "˜Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."
Good afternoon all! The latest update on Dave from Sam was posted last night on her FB page. It is as follows:
"okay ready yall Praise the Lord!!! dance dance !!!! Dave is off the vent woot!! woot!!! praisen!!! He is still dazed and confused cant talk looks high, his nurse Penny today said he is a miracle yes ma'am God is good!!! now Lord help me he is gonna be a crab lol now prayers for me lol"
Good news!! However, it is still a long road to recovery, so if you can, please donate something to help make the road easier for them. Thank you to all who donated! Please share this post with all of your friends too.
I have an update on Dave. Yesterday, Sam posted the following information:
"Okay, today they removed the central IV and put an IV in Daves hand. He is still on vent but vitals are stable and he is showing discomfort from the leg. Drs say they will give it a few days before proceeding to see how he does coming out of la la land and off vent. KSDK, Chanel 5 did a nice job on interview, she was very kind. Nurse Shannon on till 7am. Psalm 91:6 'Fear nothing, not disease that prowls through the darkness, not disaster that erupts at high noon.' Amen"

Good evening everyone! I wanted to give you an update on Dave. According to Sam, the 4th surgery was yesterday, and it went well. They are focusing on getting him off of the vent and the anesthesia so they can move forward to do the skin grafting. This will be a long process, and we do not know how much time it will take, or how much money this will cost them, so I have upped the goal amount to make sure they are covered with everything they need. Again, thank you all for your donations, and for the prayers. This is helping Sam focus on Dave and not worry about the day-to-day bills back home and the cost of living here until he can be moved. Many blessings to you all!
Thank you to all who donated! If you have not donated, it is not too late. It is super expensive for Sam to stay in Tampa Bay close enough to the hospital to see Dave daily, and to be there when he comes off of the anesthesia and is coherent. Any small amount we can give will take the stress off of her on where to stay and allow her to focus on Dave. Also, please continue to lift them in prayer. Prayer is so very powerful. Sam needs to remain positive and upbeat, so let's give her a hand, shall we?

Latest messages from Sam on Dave's condition are posted here:
"Ok, I'm gonna rest. I am gonna look for a cheaper place to stay tomorrow. I'm gonna look at a Howard Johnson's with a shuttle xoxox"
"They just took Dave for an MRI. I pray Jesus that power goes out from You and heals my husband Luke 6:19"
"Ok, Dave is still foggy. He is looking around but not responsive yet. Drs aren't too worried, they think its all the sedatives pain meds and anesthesia need to wear off. Cat scan showed nothing unusual. Pray for the fog to clear and clarity to come. Peter and Brendan came by from Rodney Howard Browne's church and laid hands on him; it was good to have some spirit filled prayer warriors stand with us. Playing some worship music on my pc. Fiorella is our super nurse today, and Bruce is our tech, very helpful. Holding on to Jesus xoxox"
Dave has been moved to Tampa Bay Genetal and has undergone more surgery. He is doing well, and the doctors are focusing on waking him up and getting him off of the ventilator, then more surgery for skin grafting. Thank you for all of your prayers and donations so far. There is still a long way to go before he can be moved home to St. Louis to start rehab, so please consider donating. No amount is too small! Thank you!!
Dave Bruns, the husband of one of my very best friends (Sam Bruns) has contracted a bacterial infection from the ocean on their family vacation in Florida in September, 2013. He fell in the ocean, injuring an already weak leg that already had poor circulation, and a skin ulcer. So far, to help save his life and keep his major organs from failing, he has had to have the skin on his left leg removed from above the knee all the way down to help get rid of the infection. He is currently in a coma, and on a ventilator in a hospital in Tampa Bay, Florida. He has had 4 surgeries on the leg so far and luckily they got to ER fast enough or he would have died quickly. This is the same flesh eating bacterial infection, called vibrio vulnificus that has been on the news in Florida for the last month or so, taking lives and making many very sick. This bacteria attacked his heart and kidneys and his bad leg within 20 hours of the fall. It is a salt water bacteria from dead shell fish. Sam has had to fly home and get what little cash she has, get some personal effects, pay some bills, and drive back to stay for the minimum of 6 week, up to 6 months for Dave to undergo skin grafting on the leg before he can be moved back home to St. Louis, Missouri. Neither one of them will be able to work, so the need for funds to help them through this time is very necessary. Please consider donating some small amount to help them keep going on this long journey to recovery. Please check out his story on the local news in St. Louis, MO at: http://www.ksdk.com/news/article/402277/3/Flesh-eating-bacteria-attacks-local-man-vacationing-in-Florida
