Volunteering in Cambodia

Hello everyone! My name is Kendra King and I am a second year student at Nipissing University. I am in the Concurrent Education program with a major in psychology. For those who may not know, Concurrent Education is a dual degree program. I am taking my Bachelor of Arts degree at the same time as my Bachelor of Education degree. Teaching has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember.  One thing that I have always wanted to do is volunteer in another country. I want to experience something different and life changing and I want to make a difference in someone else's life. Last year I heard about the Reach Out Volunteers program and I knew I had to apply. Thankfully I got accepted and now I am going to soon be taking part in a life changing experience. In May 2015, I will be travelling with a group of young adults to Cambodia for fourteen days. Once there, I will spend seven days in a small village building homes for the homeless and teaching English to the school children. For the remaining seven days, I will be in an Elephant Sanctuary bathing, feeding and taking care of all the mistreated and displaced elephants. This is a dream come true. Words cannot express how much I am looking forward to this trip. Not only will I be taking a step in the right direction for my future by gaining hands on teaching experience, I will also be making a huge difference in the lives of a local community that we'll both remember forever.
