First I would like to say that this page is get up by my family and not the nursing home. We decided to do this when my mother in law went in to the nursing home for rehabilitation services. We visit on a daily basis and was shocked to see how many wonderful residents get little to no visitors. It broke my families heart. Don't get me wrong many of them do get visitors on a regular basis but some don't get any. I think every resident deserves someone to visit. So even when my mother in law leaves the home we will continue to go to visit the residents on a biweekly basis if not more. My 13 year old daughter has actually signed up to be a weekly volunteer to do activities with the residents. They really love her and wow can she put a smile on their faces. So I learned through speaking with the front desk that every resident has an account at the home that money can be put in for things they may want. They also have a small beauty salon on site so they can get hair cuts, perms etc. they can also have money for outings. So I have decided to try to raise enough money for each resident to have $20 in their account. They can use it at the salon, night out to bingo or even some new slippers. The home at max holds 85 residents so $20 for each would be $1700.00. Also I have spoke with our local Walmart And we are working on a flower program so that once a month the residents can get flowers put in their room. It's amazing what a small gift like this can do to a resident and how happy it makes them. The flowers will be donated but we will need to get plastic vases. There is one wing that can not get flowers and my reason for wanting to do this is so NO resident is left out, so we will be buying small stuffed animals for those 17 rooms. So 17 stuffed animals for $20 as well as vases for 68 residents would be $68.00. Totaling our $1785 goal. Any donations large or small would be greatly appreciated. Also if you live local and want to volunteer you should stop in. All donation money used will be posted and what it was used for. We will post updates to keep you informed. I will also keep receipts so anyone that requests them will be able to verify the money went to an amazing cause. Thanks so much for your time.

Wonderful idea! Visiting the nursing home is an experience not to be missed. At first it might feel awkward but after you do it a vwhile there is such a sense of two way giftedness - you for the clients and the clients for you.
