Sara's 400 Capital Appeal

Donation protected

Saras Hope Foundation is a small North East based charity which was set up in 2007 in memory of Sara Hoburn who lost her battle with cancer in 2001 at 16 years old. Founded by Sara’s parents, the charity was officially launched and registered in 2008. The team work tirelessly to raise the funds and the profile of the charity so it is able to meet its main objective which is to manage a holiday retreat in Crete offering respite for the families of young people affected by cancer. Since June 2011 over 70  children and their families have visited Sara’s Retreat with more families booked for 2017.

It is our mission to give families affected by cancer a much needed break from long hospital stays, traumatic medical procedures and cancer related treatments so that they may spend quality time together recuperating and enjoying life as a ‘normal’ family, strengthening relationships and creating lasting happy memories. As cancer affects families financially as well as physically and emotionally, Saras Hope Foundation offers a holiday break free from financial burden or stress.

Since the launch of Sara's 400 Capital Appeal inMarch 2014, around £100K has been pledged, however we have a long way to go to reach our target.  Our lease on the property runs out in March 2017, therefore we are looking  for individuals, organisations, clubs or businesses to pledge to raise £1000  within this timescale. The cash can be a one off donation or you can raise the funds over the this period by organising your own events.

Once you have raised the £1000 you will receive a certificate and have your own wall stone with a personal inscription (with a maximum of 25 letters) on a purpose built wall at the Retreat.

We understand that not everyone can commit to raising £1K so please feel free to donate what you can (£2, £5, £10) to help us reach this target by March 2017.

Please help us to support more families in the future like George Sanderson from Middlesborough who was 19 months old when he was diagnosed with Wilms Tumour (Cancer of the Kidney) in April 2010. He endured 9 months of chemotherapy and 7 shots of radiotherapy;  he also had surgery to remove the tumour and one kidney,  2011 was a painful year for Mum Laura, Dad Neville and sister Libby, it was filled with heartache, fear and pain.  In 2012 the family visited Sara's Retreat and  enjoyed special 'family time'  together away from the long hospital stays and traumatic cancer treatments, strengthening relationships and creating lasting happy memories. This was their first holiday abroad.
