Medical School Tuition: Penny by Penny

My name is Kimber Johnsen and I am a first year medical student, with a BA in biology and a MA in bioethics, working to fulfill a lifelong goal and receive my third degree. Since I was little I dreamed of becoming a doctor and being able to help those both in my own country and across the world in Africa. 9 months ago I took the initial steps towards fulfilling this dream and started medical school. These past 2 semesters were very successful with my holding a GPA of 3.98/4.0 and the proud recipient of the Excellence of Biochemistry Award.
Being in medical school is no small feat and comes at a great price. However, in order to be able to help those around the world I need my loans paid off in full. To decrease the amount of debt I will have upon graduation I decided to attend school in the Caribbean where tuition is cheaper but the education is excellent and comparable to US schools. Still at this point, 4 years of undergrad and 2 semesters of med school, I am already 80,000 dollars in debt. Fortunately, money can go a long way when people are willing to help out and spread the word.
Since the school I attend is out of the country I am not eligible for federal loans and must pay for tuition out of pocket. The money I have saved up throughout my life which came through working a part time job in high school and 2 part time jobs in college as well as babysitting is quickly disappearing and the last thing I want to do is walk away from my dream. I am requesting that each person who decides to donate gives no more than $5.00 for I know every penny helps and if everyone who looks at this page gave just $1.00 I will be at my goal in no time especially if all of you would share my page with your family and friends or post it on your Facebook page.
Thank you in advance for any donations and know that you precious pennies will be put to good use and I will think about the help I received from all of you as I help my future patients.

If I should raise more money than needed to cover my school loans the remaining money will be donated to Cure International.

Please follow along on my journey thru medical school and see updates on my progress on my blog at kjmedschool.wordpress.com
