Help Ms. Evans' 7th Grade Readers!
Donation protected
Hello family & friends! As many of your know I have recently
relocated to Miami, Florida through an opportunity with Teach for America. I
have been lucky enough to be placed teaching seventh grade advanced intensive
reading at Carol City Middle School. The class I will be teaching will include
some of the lowest readers in our school. Last year, only 23 percent of the
students attending the school were reading proficiently at grade level. This
means that only one out of five students can read at the level I could or many
of yourselves when you were in seventh grade. Some of the students I have will
be reading at a second or third grade reading level in the seventh grade.
To give you some background about the school, 99 percent of those attending are a minority, and over 90 percent of our students are receiving free or reduced lunch. Many of these students have to overcome difficulties to even attend school every day.
Our school year begins on August 19th, and unfortunately due to the extreme expenses of relocating and the fact that I won't be receiving any kind of pay (since graduating college!) until the second week of September, I will be unable to purchase many of the supplies my students will need. You though can help me give these children the best education I can through a small donation!
There are two ways you can help.
1) Send me any materials you think could be useful (especially books!) I am trying to build an amazing library to help my students become more interested in reading. If you email me at [email redacted] I would be more than happy to give you my address.
2) Send a small donation via this website. Any donated money will go directly towards purchasing supplies such as markers, pens, pencils (students always seem to lose them), whiteboards, classroom decorations and books for our library!
Thank you so much for your help, and support. Anything you can give will go a far way in the life of a child. :)
