Help Restore Happy Hog Ranch

Happy Hog Ranch

Billy and Sara MacDonald packed up their family and moved from the Kitchener Waterloo area to follow their dreams of living the true country lifestyle in Bruce County. It was their appreciation for the health benefits associated with pasture grazed non-GMO eating, that inspired this young couple to trust their hearts and open Happy Hog Ranch. “We raise pigs the old fashioned way and what better way  to give back to our community than to provide healthy affordable food options that guarantee the animals have had an amazing quality of life”.  Needless to say it didn’t take long before Happy Hog Ranch was making the community….. happy.

However, at 3am onTuesday Oct 20 a bright light shining through their bedroom window woke Sara and Billy with panic. They quickly realized the light, “a farmers worst nightmare”… was their barn involved in flames taking the lives of 60 chickens and a beloved family cow (Red). Having been free-range, the pigs miraculously were unharmed along with a sow (Debbie) that managed to break free from the flames saving herself and her four piglets - just born 5 days prior.

This devastation has with no doubt resulted in business production loss and significant financial and emotional stress on the family. When the sun finally came up what was left of their dreams was devestating.  They loved those animals and she loved her business.

The support from their community, family and friends has been incredible, many bringing food, lending supplies and many expressing they are on standby and can help when given the word.

Unfortunately, after the insurance assessment for the barn and possessions  inside they have been told it is not enough to rebuild the barn. They estimate about an additional $10 000 more will be required.

We hope that by starting the gofundme account, we as a generous community, can give back some hope that they will once again operate Happy Hog Ranch.  Any amount is appreciated.

Additional ways to help:
Gift cards to Home Hardware (they need lumber building supplies).

Grocery gift cards (to relieve some financial burdens on the family- they have two young boys 1y and 3y)

Farmers! Consider donating feed, wood, hay or extra supplies and offering temporary housing for animals if needed! It's getting cold out there!

If gofundme isn’t for you, consider Etransfering support their personal email - etransfers guareentee that 100% of funds go directly to the family.

Thank you everyone,
