I'm an ameteur toy designer and currently my production cycle involves me creating designs in 3D CAD, sending those designs to Shapeways, ordering prints and waiting 2 or more weeks to see what changes need to be made to the original design. Once I have the prints in hand I make further changes and repeat the process. Not only does this make for a lengthy design process it is also an expensive one. The cost that I pay to Shapeways is only a dollar or so cheaper than what the public would pay for my work.
I've searched for a long time for a home printer that would be capable of printing the detail and quality that I require for my designs. Based on interviews and articles I've read, the ProDesk3D
looks like it will be the perfect printer for my needs.
Purchasing this printer would not only speed up my design cycle for producing new products and get them into the hands of fans faster, it would also allow me to produce products at home, in plastic, and in color. This means that I could offer products direct to my customers already colored and in plastic, rather than going through Shapeways where the best option is polymide products that have a coarse gritty texture to them and would require the customer to paint. In addition to this, I would be able to offer the products for considerably cheaper than going through Shapeways. This would, of course be a win for both the customers and me. The only one this wouldn't be good for is Shapeways :D
The amount that I'm asking for is just enough to purchase the printer and hopefully a second supply of print media. On this budget I can't offer much by way of rewards, but any amount over the requested amount will go to purchase more material so that I can produce more products.
Everybody that helps me out with even a dollar will not only have my thanks, but will get access to purchase first runs of finalized products before I make them available to the public. for those that are generous in their contributions I've tried to come up with some rewards that will make it worth your while.
The line of figures that I'm working on and trying to promote is called Action Formers. They are little minifigures full of articulation and personality modeled after popular characters in Transformers: More than Meets the Eye. These little guys don't transform but for their size they offer more articulation and detail than anything currently available.

In addition to my new line of "Action Formers" I have a rather successful line of upgrades for Transformers Kreons available through my Shapeways shop. I will be making the Basic upgrade as well as the Omega upgrade available as rewards for helping me out. Here's a few shots of those items:
