My name is Kate and I am 25. I have been disabled for 7 years and have been using a service dog for 6 of those. My service dogs have changed my life. Without them I would not be here today. My dogs care for me, and support me in the most amazing way.
I am in need of a new service dog. But I'm not the person I was 7 years ago, I'm not afraid to say it. I have Meniere's Disease which has no cure. Compounding my problem are A-typical migraines which means that I've had constant head pain since September of 2011.
As my Meniere's showed itself my balance began to waver. I started the search for a mobility dog a year ago, after I fell on my current service dog, Dixon, who through no fault of his own is simply too small for my needs. Dixon who had warned me the vertigo was coming, and who stuck with me, even after I ignored him and fell.
I adopted a dog in February of last year and with the help of a private trainer I had high hopes for him, Ranger. As many people now know Ranger washed out. I am so sad about that because he had so much potential.
Now, at this present time. I am too sick and too tired to start again, I can not get through the process of picking a dog, starting the training, doing the public access with a mobility dog. Therefore I am reaching out to programs for a dog, a dog which could cost anywhere from $3,000-$5,000.
I am not asking for you to pay for the whole dog, I don't feel that's right, my husband and I can handle some of the costs of acquisition of the dog, but we need some help. Please donate whatever you can, even if it's $1 or $0.50.....I will be grateful for any donation I receive. Also if you can not donate I ask that you share this and spread the word.
