I'm sitting in a classroom in Madison, Wisconsin and this is my sayama (teacher):
I've just been accepted into the SEASSI (Southeast Asian Summer Studies Institute) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to study Burmese in an 8-week language intensive equivalent to two semesters of study, with full academic year credit.
I've also been offered a $1,700 Tuition Scholarship to help defray the costs of instruction, which are $3,700 in total.
But, in order to dive into this amazing opportunity, I need your help! I've been teaching and working all year, but my contract position does not offer paid work over the summer.
$2,000 will go to covering the remainder of SEASSI tuition.
$1,000 will help fund the remaining costs, including housing, meals and transportation to/from Wisconsin.
With your help, I will be able to study my mother's native language in an accredited and renowned program. It's the opportunity of a lifetime I've been waiting for and working towards for many years.
