Summit Academy Destination Imagination

Youngstown Summit Academy Secondary is pleased to announce that our Destination Imagination Team has qualified to compete in the Global Destination Imagination Finals to be held May 22-26 in Knoxville, TN!!!!!
This competition will feature over 1200 teams representing 13 countries, 45 states, and 7 Canadian provinces. By competing in the Global Finals, the Summit Academy DI Team will proudly represent Youngstown and the State of Ohio.

Destination Imagination is an internationally sponsored problem solving competition. Students are presented with a variety of primary challenges and choose an area in which to compete during the school year. Our Summit Academy team completed a community service project which involved mentoring elemetary and junior high students , then prepared and presented a program that demonstrated their efforts. They were awarded First Place at the regional competition and Third Place at state competition, earning them the right to compete on a global scale.

However, an even greater challenge faces the DI Team. In only four weeks, they must raise $7,000 in order to participate at the Global Finals. This is needed for transportation, lodging, meals and entrance fees. Most Summit Academy families fall within the federal poverty guidelines and 100% of the students qualify for participation in the federal free lunch program. This is a staggering sum and without the support of the Youngstown community it will be impossible for the team to take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity.
