Thanks to everyone who has donated so far! Only $820 until we reach our goal...so far $1,680 raised by 22 people in 5 days! Ludoteca was in danger of closing...but because of each of you who has taken the time to donate...Ludoteca will stay open!
Before I go further, I chatted with Vitalina on Facebook last night, and she is so grateful to each and every one of you! Vitalina will write a note for everyone later, but this is an excerpt of our conversation that I will share with you...
"no se como agradecer todo a las personas que estan ayudando nunca olvidare esto
SI AMIGA CLARO QUE LO HARE ME SIENTO MUY FELIZ DE SABER QUE HAY MUCHAS PERSONAS EN EL MUNDO QUE ME QUIEREN
gracias mi amiga ustedes son personas maravillosas y saben valorar alos niños si ellos son muy importante en mi vida sabes cada que llego a ludoteca ellos estan esperando en la puerta son maravillosos"
Now, I was contacted by someone yesterday who had questions as to exactly how this is being done. I will share with you what Thays and I have discussed.
At the moment, you are all aware that the organizational transfer is still in process and is taking longer than anticipated. I became involved with this because Vitalina is a friend of mine and she told me about what was going on, and how she had been struggling. After I posted in here, Thays got in touch with me to give me further details about the situation at hand. As you can read through previous updates, part of the problem is the woman who is running the other organization is being treated for cancer in Ica, and shouldn't have caused a delay in the transfer of responsibilities, things happen...which is why the situation is as it currently stands.
And what is that situation? Vitalina has not been paid for three months, she has been paying for her transportation to and from Ludoteca (an expense that had previously been covered), and the water bill for Ludoteca has not been paid since January. Ludoteca has been without water for three months.
So, where does this leave us right now?
Our goal is to make sure we are here to financially help Ludoteca until the transfer process to Yanapaq is complete. Our goal is, at the end of this process (through the transfer of Ludoteca to Yanapaq in Peru), Ludoteca will be financially independent/solvent, and will no longer need financial support from us as Yanapaq will have assumed all operational responsibilities.
When Thays and I discussed the possibility of a Crowd Funding Campaign for Ludotcea, we discussed the previous budget when PSF was involved and came up with $2500 by figuring out how much it would cost to take care of everything in arrears, plus an additional 2-3 months funding to cover Vitalina's/Ludoteca's expenses while the transfer to Yanapaq is in process/completes. As mentioned in the fundraiser, any additional money over $2500, will go towards supplies, sporting goods, games, art supplies, and books for Ludoteca. Thays and I have discussed between us that we must be assured that Ludoteca is financially solvent and all operational responsibilities has been assumed by Yanapaq before that would occur. Until that time happens, any money raised is earmarked specifically for the operational expenses of Ludoteca.
In regards to Vitalina...not having been paid for teaching for the past three months has put a big strain on Vitalina, emotionally, personally and financially. Given the current circumstances, the first priority is to relieve this strain Vitalina has been living with. WePay allows you to withdraw money from the campaign while it is in process, Because Vitalina has been severely struggling due to these unforeseen circumstances, I have already set in motion the process to withdraw some of the money from the campaign and get it to Vitalina as soon as possible. Depending on how quickly it is deposited into my account through WePay, I expect to be able to send the money to pay Vitalina her past wages and turn the water back on at Ludoteca by the end of this week. While this is being sent to my personal account at the moment, I am setting up a separate account for the donations. I will keep financial documentation of all costs (The first transaction will be $1080 including transfer fees) and provide copies of this information to Thays, should any questions occur.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to drop either Thays or myself a note...otherwise, thanks to everyone who has helped so far! We are doing an awesome job fundraising.
And remember, if you can't afford to make a donation at this time, please, post this link on your Facebook, send it to your friends and encourage everyone to donate...because every little bit counts.
