Henry needs our help!!!

What if you woke up and both of your legs were gone? What would you do? What would you need? How would you pay for it all?

On June 13th, 2016 Henry Hey & Donna walked into the hospital for what they were told would be a three hour surgical procedure to improve the circulation to his toe in his left foot. Then Henry would be able to go home within one week. This was not the case, instead of a 3 hour procedure, he had 5 surgeries in 3 days. While in critical condition, in an effort to save his life both his legs had been amputated above his knees. By the 5th surgery his surgical team, family and friends feared he would not survive due to the trauma that his poor body had already been through. He remained in critical condition and on life support until June 22nd. By the grace of God, Henry's vital signs improved and when they finally took him off of life support, he started breathing on his own. When Henry finally awoke he looked down and saw that both his legs were gone!

Henry amazed us all with his strength & determination! In spite of the intense pain, Henry never complained! He did not mourn for the loss of his limbs or dwell on why life had turned on him. Instead, he focused upon his recovery, putting in grueling and excruciating painful hours of physical therapy and occupational therapy. His goal was to walk again with prosthetic limbs. Now he faced another challenge. His left leg was not healing well and was developing gangrene and he would undergo another two operations. Henry’s fear of more operations, was that his thigh would be cut back so much he would not be able to wear prostheses, or he would not survive. Although the doctors amputated more of his leg, through God's will, he survived and he would have enough of his leg to be able to have prosthesis. Amazingly and gratefully, Henry is now out of ICU, but remains in the hospital, and back to his work on his recovery.

The Physical Therapists and social workers have given Henry an overwhelming list of items that he will need to purchase and things that will need to be changed to accommodate his new state. Living in his own home Henry will need, amongst many other items, a handicap vehicle, have wheelchair accessible ramps built, a wheelchair lift installed, exterior and interior doorways widened and his bathroom gutted and rebuilt to make it handicap accessible. All of which are not covered by Henry’s health insurance policy.

If the above items that Henry absolutely must have are not covered by insurance, how will Henry pay for all of this on top of his mounting medical bills? From his hospital bed Henry has delegated Donna, his friends and family to sell all of his possessions that he cannot use from a wheelchair. His truck, RV camper, motorcycles and other recreational and work related items have been sold or are currently up for sale to raise money.

Henry's most important goal is to walk again, for which he will need a special custom set of legs made. A double above-the-knee amputee needs special computerized prosthesis that will assist with the coordination of the bending of the knee and ankle. Each leg cost a staggering $75,000.00 and will have to be replaced every four to five years. How is a man with his disabilities going to be able to pay for them?

We need you!! There has been a tremendous outpouring of love & support from loved ones, friends, and family for which we are extremely grateful! Our many loyal & amazing friends & his son are all working feverishly, donating there time, labor & finances to get his house handicap accessible. But this is only the beginning! Henry’s family and friends are asking compassionate strangers to help us raise enough money to help this good man cover his expenses related to his special needs, and to purchase a pair of prosthetic legs enabling him to live an independent life. Please give what you can to help this good man who is known in his community for giving assistance to those in need and know that you will have Henry, his family , his children , his beloved Donna , and his friend’s eternal gratitude.

Please share this among your friends and help us to help Henry. Henry has told us his life will never be as he once knew it! With your help and the help of many other compassionate people such as yourselves, your kind donations will assist him to one day have the ability to be able to do the simplest things in life we often take for granted.

We thank you in advance for you kind love ,support, prayers and donations. Thank you and God bless!
