Operation White Blaze ... WWP/SOWF
Donation protected
In short, I will be "thru-hiking" the Appalachian Trail in support of the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) and Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF).
The goal is to complete the "2,000 mile" journey in 100 days, all the while raising awareness about wounded warriors, remembering the fallen special operators, and raising funds for these two charity organizations. The plan is to depart from Springer Mountain in mid to late May of 2013 and to summit Mount Katahdin in early to mid September of 2013.
A little background ...
The Appalachian Trail is a "super trail" that stretches 2,184 miles, from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine.
---
Wounded Warrior Project aims to "honor and empower wounded warriors".
---
Special Operations Warrior Foundation supports the families of fallen U.S. servicemembers, more specifically special operators, by providing a college education to every child who has lost a parent serving in Special Operations during an operational or training mission.
---
As a note, a small portion (15%) of the proceeds will go towards funding the hike (food, *lodging). However, if the donation does not total $11,000 or more ... all the funds will go towards the two organizations.
*Most nights will be spent in my tent, a trail shelter, or cowboy camping, but there might be nights spent in a hostel/motel.
