Hello good people. In case you are not aware, and let's face it there is plenty on this earth to concern oneself with as it is, I have been making music quite consistently as both Mr. Squirrel and Bija for around six years now. This year sees, finally, the culmination of many years of work writing and honing style and voice, making sure the things bump when they ought, and squiggle when they are in between bumps...and mentally *exciting* releases have appeared on the horizon, along with the spiralling necessities therein...the problem is this: to get this absolute mess of a wealth of tunes from the various sonic machines I have at my disposal, out into your good ears, and even further, out in live situations, I must rebel against my need-not, simplistic nomadic wants, breakdown, and admit that i'm in dire need of some bits and bobs. To be able to let this music and vision blossom for you all as I dearly intend it to, I've come to the unfortunate conclusion that it will in fact, cost real government grade money. Bittersweetly, a relocation to England from the midwest in America for audio engineering university has meant that whereas the new music I have to unleash upon this noisy sea of DIY-ers is of considered and polished quality...I am also completely bereft of a non personal wellbeing and health locked budget. That is why I have set up this corner of the internet where you might be wistfully moved by the spirit of the purest artistic patronage, to donate spare change, a few dollars/quid whatever you are willing to spare to aid an independent artist do their thing.
Unlike a Kickstarter, or Bandcamp scenario in which I tease everyone with dangled carrot, I am literally too excited by these new sounds, and there are simply TOO many pending projects, to let them out of the gates before they are ready, but let me give you a bit of insight on where your funds are going: making music has both really awe inspiring, body contorting, soul expanding moments, but it also has really oppressively dull and niggling, and yet horrendously insidious costs. Memory and backup space is always the bane of the creative media artist, and I require both memory upgrades for studio computers and a new backup drive. A new production/controller interface is also required to get the new album(s) up and running, and quite importantly, *live*(!) Part of this move toward a gigging squirrel includes finally making at least a partial leap over to the music creation software Ableton Live, after many years working with Logic, it's time to port these things over to a more non linear performance based environment. Lastly my beautiful Kaoss pad, a studio mainstay, and performance necessity, was brutally injured in the relocation and requires emergency surgery to be in tip top fighting shape again.
So there you have it! Should you dig what I do, and wish me to continue doing it, and if you'd like to see me do it even better, and even better still, in a town closer to you on big beefy sound systems, please consider helping out the Squirrel cause. If you are not very, or at all familiar with my tunes (and you've read this far), I've got things lying in wait for free download on Bandcamp (http://mrsquirrel.bandcamp.com/) and you can have a listen to the most current--and some of the very OLDEST--Squirrel and Bija sounds over at https://soundcloud.com/mr-squirrel
The warmest and deepest of 'thank you's, beautiful people, old, as well as new, friends. Your support has given me love, purpose, and direction over these past few years. You can rest assured 100% of these donations are going to what you see before you: things to help me make music for all of you that will have it. Peace light, and health,
Piers (Mr. Squirrel/Bija)
