(The video above is a judge's video we made for the MA State Championship.)

FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) team 4029, 2 Bits and a Byte, first started in 2009 as a 10-person robotics club for students at Lexington High School.  Under the program name “LexRobotics,” the team met twice-a-week in the school computer lab.  Being a public school club, we opted for an open doors policy, so anyone willing to put in the commitment could join.  Since its start, 2 Bits and a Byte has gone to the FTC World Championship twice, reached 60+ members, split to form an all-girls team called The Parity Bits, and continues to grow in size.  We have also become one of the primary resources of engineering at our high school.

Our school offers limited engineering curricula with the only engineering course at our school being a semester-long robotics course for seniors-only.  We are the place many students go to in order to foster their engineering passions, and we embrace that.  We aim to be more than a team, but a community.

An investment in 2 Bits and a Byte will not only touch the lives of 60+ high school students, but also have an overarching effect in the community.  Our mission is not to make people do engineering, but to love it.  We have an award-winning outreach program that has educated hundreds of students and adults in STEM.  We have showcased from the local to international level, organized robotics birthday parties for homeless children, and created robotics classes for special needs students -- to name a few.  Currently, we are leading the largest educational engineering grant initiative in the history of our district to establish engineering curricula and departments in the public school system.

We receive no monetary support from the school, minimal from parents, and must raise everything on our own to compete during the season.  We pride ourselves in being completely student-run and organized. All robot design, team management, outreach, documentation, fundraising, and finances are handled by students.

This year, our team has again reached the World Championship.  We are currently raising money to help alleviate transportation and hotel costs.  It is because of people like you that we can successfully compete in and learn through this amazing program.

Thank you!
