Balkan Flood Appeal (Collette Webster)

Donation protected

Collette's memorial was successfully placed last September thanks to everyones fantastic donations and her playground will be continued later this year, but now there is a greater need, a need that I know Collette would have begged everyone to help with.

It was always planned that a legacy would be established in Collette's name, a way that help could be provided to the Balkan regions in her name, in her memory, with her love.
Many will know that I have been involved with various areas of work throughout Croatia and Bosnia Herzegovina for over 20 years from delivering humanitarian aid in the early 1990's, photographing the conflict though to 1995, equiping and training a number of fire departments throughout the 2000's, right up to planning the memorial for Collette in Mostar over the last 2 years.

Right now the playground project is still ongoing and work has also begun on the plans to re-equip and train the fire station in Citluk with a new fire truck and up to date rescue equipment and protective clothing for the firefighters there.

But events have taken priority and our focus has been redirected for the near future....

Recently swathes of Bosnia Herzegovina and regions of Croatia and Serbia have recently been devasted by floods, the worst floods seen in over 150 years. Close to 100 people have so far been confirmed killed and many thousands have been left homeless. During her time in Bosnia Herzegovina Collette worked for a non govermental agency working to rebuild devasted homes during the conflict, now this new devastation is a need for the same kind of aid.

A further result of the floods, particularly in Bosnia Herzegovina, will be the possible movement of many thousands of land mines which have not yet been cleared or in many cases even located since the conflict ended. The work of the mine clearance agencies will be made much, much more difficult following this disaster and others may suffer further as a result.

Help us to help those affected, this will be a long term effort to rebuild homes and lives.
Similar to our work in the 1990's the money we raise is being put forward to provide deliveries of building materials, humanitarian aid, medical aid and volunteers to deliver and issue this aid. There will be a number of fire services who will benefit from what we can provide also so they along with those tasked with clearing the legacey of war (land mines) will can continue their vital tasks to help re-build their local areas and the rest of the region.

So in Collette's name we continue our appeal.

Thank you you all....
