As most of you already know, your GoFundMe online donation page connects directly to your PayPal account to ensure that you have instant, secure access to every donation you receive. If you haven’t done so already, please be sure and take advantage of PayPal’s FREE upgrade to the ‘Premier’ account level. Again, it doesn’t cost anything to upgrade your PayPal account to the ‘Premier’ level and it makes the donation experience a lot easier on your donors.
It’s common for new GoFundMe users to sign-up for PayPal accounts in a hurry. In doing so, users sometimes miss important instructions from PayPal – like forgetting to click the verification link in your welcome email or omitting certain contact information. Anytime this happens, PayPal is likely to prevent your account from working the way it should for security reasons.
UPDATE: You will have received an email from PayPal about linking your bank account when you first signed up for your PayPal account or upgraded to Premier. PayPal actually requires that you click on this email as a means of verifying your email address. We realize that the language in this email is less-than-clear, but PayPal needs you to click on it nonetheless.
In short, the more PayPal knows about you, the more they trust that you’re not some bad guy up to no good : ) Upgrading to a PayPal ‘Premier’ account only takes a few minutes and helps ensure that your visitors can donate to your fund without having to sign-in to a PayPal account of their own – hooray!
Next time you sign-in to PayPal, you’ll probably see a screen that looks like the image below. When you arrive, be sure to upgrade your account (for free!) to the ‘Premier’ level. You’ll also want to make sure your account is ‘Verified’ – which is PayPal’s way of verifying your identity to help prevent misuse. Any questions? Please contact us!
NOTE: If you’re using a PayPal ‘Business’ account, there’s no need to upgrade.
