Hello everyone. My name is Stephan, and my wife Barbara and I are asking you to please help my dog, Anabelle, get treatment for her brain tumor.
Anabelle is a loving, gentle, kind, playful, and generous soul who seems to be happiest when laying in the sun or having people around to keep her company. She has been physically examined, had a full blood panel, xrays, and an MRI and is completely healthy in every way aside from the tumor. And, if untreated, the tumor will cause a rapid decline and take her life far too soon.
The good news is that her tumor - a meningioma - is very manageable and with proper care and treatment Anabelle can live out the remainder of her life and have many more wonderful christmases.
The treatment is very simple: a series of radiation therapy to kill the cancerous cells. The survival rate for dogs receiving this treatment is very high, with a 1-year rate of greater than 90%, and a 5-year rate of over 50%. Considering Anabelle's fantastic health in every other way, the doctors are as certain as they can be that with treatment she can live out the remainder of her life without any further problems. We'll post regular updates and have pictures of her during her treatment so you can see how she's doing, as well as a big final update when it's all done.
Unfortunately, the cost of treatment is very high - about $13,000. We can afford to pay a good portion of that, but not all of it.
I know, you're probably asking why anyone would want to spend so much on a dog. Well, we have no kids, and Anabelle has been a faithful, lovable, constant companion, and we believe that we have an obligation to do what ever we can to help her after all the love and friendship she's given to us. And so, even though it is very hard to do, I have decided to see if there are any pet lovers out there who understand our predicament, and are able and willing to help. Even a dollar would go a long way.
Every little bit will be appreciated.
