Over the course of the last six weeks our silence has not been voluntary. Let us say, those in Jefferson County New York in charge of the Justice System hate the First Amendment as much as they hate the Second Amendment.
The Jefferson County District Attorney offered Nathan Haddad a plea deal. It was for two misdemeanors that would be conditionally discharged after one year. In addition, he would receive a $200 fine. Further, Nathan's pistol permit and gun ownership rights would be immediately restored.
"An unjust law is no law at all" but the problem is in a tyrannical system it is now law of all! Nathan chose to accept this plea as it was apparent the only way he would be able to win without a protracted fight was through jury nullification. In a state which elected Andrew Cuomo and a county that elected Cindy Intschert, Nathan didn't like his odds.
While we would have loved to see a "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" showdown at the Supreme Court Nathan simply wanted to continue on with his life. It was near certain the judge in this case was going to "massage" the verdict to express his anger over the scrutiny this case received.
The pressure brought in this case is like nothing any of these career politicians had ever seen. The intense focus you brought saved Nathan from years in jail. Nathan got nearly everything he wanted. We respect Nathan's choice.
The remaining funds will be used to pay Nathan's legal expenses. The remaining portion will be disposed of with assistance and guidance from Nathan Haddad. To that end, this fund has already given $1,000 to the legal defense fund of a combat wounded veteran Benjamin Wassall. Ben, a Marine, was injured in Iraq. He became the first person charged under the NYS Safe Act. Ben is another good guy who is being targeted by New York State.
We would like to sincerely thank all those who have donated and prayed for Nathan during this difficult time with a special thank you to Seth Buchman. Nathan will be sharing his story in the near future. He intends at this point to wet a hook and catch a few trout. He then will buy a shotgun and do some hunting.
"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.""”Edmund Burke
Nathan's lawyer went to court yesterday. Nathan will return to court on March 29, 2013. We are unable to speak further regarding the court events.
Nathan has requested that his supporters refrain from contacting elected officials in Jefferson County. We respect Nathan and will personally honor his wishes. Nathan does not control us just as we don't control those who still wish to contact authorities.
This is very important for some to understand. This website and blog is not used by Nathan as his soap box. Nathan has at times shared information directly with us but he does not write or approve what is written here. The opinions and suggestions here are those of the author.
Our primary purpose here is to raise funds to pay for the legal expenses associated with Nathan's defense. With the help of over 1,200 people this has been quite successful. Thank you!
Again we are not requesting you contact ANY politicians in Jefferson County. However, we still see a lack of prosecutorial discretion and a system that treats a rich, white, liberal media mogul David Gregory one way and the combat vet, son of a Lebanese immigrant Nathan Haddad in a completely opposite way. That is wrong!
An America where "we are all equal but some of us are more equal than others" is not an America we want to live in. We understand your anger! We are angry too!
Nathan's story has been featured by Alex Jones, Glenn Beck, Glenn Reynolds, USA Today and Tucker Carlson. Thousands of blogs, newspapers, websites and TV stations have shared that Nathan was arrested for allegedly possessing 5 EMPTY magazines and is facing 7 years in prison. (He would get less time for molesting a child!) This truth has made a lot of AMERICANS angry! The response of others is beyond our control!
We don't have a J.D. from Harvard but if people are angry about injustice it seems to us the way to stop the anger is to stop the injustice!
The one request we do have is that if you choose to ignore Nathan's request than please be respectful. Please do not make threats. While we doubt any actual threats have been made by Nathan's supporters and this is just an example of the self-importance and grandiose fantasies that characterizes so many politicians please choose your words carefully.
Again we are not requesting you contact any elected officials in Jefferson County New York.

Nathan was scheduled to return to court on 27 March but the prosecutor's office has requested a new meeting for THIS WEDNESDAY 27 February at 163 Arsenal Street in Watertown, New York. If you are in the Fort Drum/ Watertown New York area and can be at the Jefferson County Courthouse at 0830 this Wednesday that would be much appreciated. Please forward this on to likeminded organizations such as the VFW, American Legion, gun clubs, Tea Party Groups, etc. that may be able to attend.
The District Attorney has made statements regarding the amount of contact she has received regarding this case. That's what happens when you do the wrong thing!
We are not requesting that you contact Cindy F. Intschert, District Attorney by phone at (315) 785-3053, by fax at (315) 785-3371, by mail at 175 Arsenal Street Watertown, New York 13601, or stop into the office at 175 Arsenal Street Watertown, New York 13601 between 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. however should you choose to contact the District Attorney and express your concerns about how the prosecution of this case is a complete waste of taxpayer resources, is a gross attack on the Constitution, is an affront to the Conservative values she purports to hold, and displays a total lack of prosecutorial discretion then please be considerate and respectful.
Again, thank you for your generous support. Please continue to pray for peace for Nathan and his family during this stressful time.

Yesterday's court proceedings clarified things! The Jefferson County District Attorney's office is more interested in political expediency than justice. THAT IS A MISTAKE!
Consultations between Nathan's attorney Seth Buchman and a team of attorneys specializing in the 2nd Amendment and Constitutional law have already occurred. In addition, outside organizations including the NRA and The 2nd Amendment Foundation are aware of and involved in this action. Strategy is being debated, planned out and implemented.
I want to add a special thanks to Emily Miller at the Washington Times for her careful, fair and accurate reporting. In a time when most reporters simply carry water for the government Emily truly stands out as wanting to find "truth."
We will continue to raise funds and are prepared to take this as far as necessary to obtain justice. Nathan did not choose this path but he is on it. If this path takes him to the Supreme Court of the United States that is where we will go!
We will be sharing additional information in the coming days including actionable steps you can take.

Between online donations, paypal, and mailed donations over $38,000 has been collected in 28 days. Thank you! Michael Haddad has been working with legal counsel to set up the appropriate legal structures to formalize Nathan's defense fund. We hope this can be finalized next week. Our goal is transparency and accountability so that those who have invested their money will be able to have confidence that their funds are being used properly. To that goal, other than the funds distributed to Nathan for retaining his lawyer(Seth Buchman) and the fees charged by GoFundMe the remaining funds are in a segregated account.
The hope is that all legal considerations can be settled on 2.20.2013. If so than any funds not needed to resolve Nathan's legal issues will be dispersed with Nate's guidance to charitable organizations that work with veterans. Please pray that this is what happens. At this point we are not going to talk about "ifs and buts." The one thing we can assure you is this; "[WE] HAVE NOT YET BEGUN TO FIGHT!"

Nathan did not choose the path he is on but he is on it! Nathan has always served in the background and would certainly choose to remain out of the limelight. He wouldn't choose to be the poster boy of what is wrong in America today but he also is not one to shy away from the battle.
I want you to know Nathan Haddad for who he is; not just as an abstract person being abused by a system that has criminalized routine actions. Nathan Haddad is real! He has goals and dreams just like you. What is compelling about Nate's case is how easily he could be you!
Nathan grew up in Chautauqua County in Upstate New York. From a very young age, Nathan was involved with his church. During the summer, Nathan spent many of his high school years working at Bethany Camp in Sinclairville, NY. He was just a kid but he would work long hours making sure the grounds were in top notch shape. He worked circles around men twice his age!
Nathan joined the army right after high school graduation. When he was serving in Iraq his last name did not escape notice of the enemy. Nathan is the son of a Lebanese immigrant. Of all soldiers in Iraq those with Arabic last names were hated most by our adversaries. Nathan never once shied away from his name or his AMERICAN heritage! When I asked Nathan today about his service medals he told me and then said "Please don't share! Awards aren't bragging rights." Always humble!
Nathan is AMAZED at your generosity. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! He is spending most of his time now doing what he regularly does; going to work, spending time with friends, serving his fellow man and involved with his church. He asks that you continue to pray for him but especially his family. The stress and desire to help their son, uncle, and brother is very high right now. Pray that God gives the family peace!
The similarities of what Nathan is accused of and what David Gregory did on national television are unmistakable. Like David Gregory this alleged "crime" has no victims. There are however huge differences. Nathan, unlike Gregory, wasn't aware of a potential violation of the law. Nathan, unlike Gregory, had no criminal intent. Nathan Haddad, unlike David Gregory is not a rich media mogul with friends in high places. (Nathan does though have quite a few friends in low places!)
Nathan is a graceful man. While it is natural to be angry and want to vent our frustrations he has requested that we avoid calling the District Attorney's office at this time. At this point we must believe that the DA in Jefferson County will seek JUSTICE.

Thank you to all who have provided support for Nathan!
Let me share a little about Nathan. Nate grew up in Jamestown, NY. He was one of 5 children who were raised by a single mother. He dreamed of joining the military and did so upon graduation. He served honorably in combat during Operation Iraqi Freedom and at numerous other posts around the world. He was continuing his military career when a severe shoulder injury forced him to be medically discharged. Nathan represented the United States in the inaugural Warrior Games. Nate continues working with numerous veteran organizations today and is actively involved with his church. Nathan is a good guy!
Due to the rapid growth of this fund set up for SSG Nathan Haddad's legal defense consultations have been made with professional accounting and legal counsel. Large amounts of funds have the potential to corrupt anybody and the goal is to be completely and totally above reproach in the administration of these investments. Based on Nathan's request any funds not needed to resolve this issue will be used to aid Nate's fellow veterans; this is a firm commitment.
The purpose of this fund was to be able to provide a vigorous, tenacious, and viable defense for an honorable man who served his country and is now a victim of a government that has taken routine actions and criminalized them. Nathan works hard but was not in position to shoulder this entire financial load himself. Thankfully hundreds of people have stood shoulder to shoulder with Nathan. NATHAN WILL HAVE THAT DEFENSE!
Please refrain from disparaging calls to elected officials involved in this case. We too are angry and believe how this law is being applied is unjust. Right now is the time to resolve Nathan's legal issues regarding this case. It is important to realize that any actions taken on behalf of Nathan have the potential to be used against him in court.
The allegations against Nathan are that he was in possession of 5 EMPTY 30 round magazines. In 44 other states what Nathan is accused of doing is LEGAL!
David Gregory of NBC News did virtually the same thing Nathan is accused of but he did it on NATIONAL TELEVISION! The prosecutor in that case chose not to prosecute. A country in which "we are all equal but some of us are more equal than others" is not acceptable!
Should the state of New York send an honorable man to jail for up to 35 years and at a cost of millions of dollars to taxpayers?
Should the state of New York remove Nathan's constitutional rights and ability to vote when he fought for his country with such great honor and valor?
Augustine of Hippo said and Martin Luther King Jr. repeated "an unjust law is no law at all." Justice is not a relative term! Justice is transcendent! Our pray is that Nathan receives justice!
THANK YOU AND AGAIN THANK YOU!
Nathan is overwhelmed with your generosity. Your comments have been so uplifting. At this time please continue to pray for Nathan, his family, his legal team, and those who will stand in judgment over him. Thank You!
PLEASE NOTE UNTIL 2/20/2013 NO INTERVIEWS OR COMMENT OTHER THAN WHAT IS SHARED HERE CAN BE MADE. THIS IS VITALLY IMPORTANT FOR NATHAN's DEFENSE!

Update on Nathan Haddad
On January 6, 2013 Nathan Haddad, a decorated combat veteran, who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom was arrested for being in possession of 5 EMPTY AR-15 magazines by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. Nathan has been a long time responsible gun owner, church attender, volunteer with a variety of veteran organizations, and a contributing tax payer.
Due to ongoing legal considerations Nathan cannot provide any statements. He did relay that this generous outpouring of support is so appreciated and completely humbling. Nathan has sold many of his assets and thanks everybody for standing in the gap. You are allowing Nathan to mount a viable and vigorous defense.
Nathan fought for this country and believes in justice. Our hope and prayer is that justice will be served. Please at this point continue to provide financial support. We still do not know how expensive this defense will cost. Pray that the authorities will use their discretion and also seek justice. At this time it is vital that we remain respectful and have faith that "˜wrong will fail and right prevail.'
A significant amount of the funds donated have already been used in Nathan's defense. An effort is being made to provide a level of openness and transparency so that anybody who invests in Nathan and the 2nd Amendment will know their funds were used properly. In the event that more funds are received than will be necessary to resolve Nathan's legal defense Nate has already requested those funds be given to a number of charitable organizations that work with veterans (this alone speaks to his character.)
Pray for peace for Nathan. He is facing the potential loss of freedom, loss of voting rights, and the loss of his 2nd amendment rights. Pray that justice is served. If you would like to send an encouraging word you may leave a comment here. Thank you again for your support.
After talking with Nathan he has said to me that if there is any money left over when this is done that he would like it to go to charity. Just another example of what kind of person my brother is. thank you to everuone who has donated. you are a blessing
My brother, Nathan Haddad, is not only a decorated combat veteran, but models the character qualities that make him the kind of man who goes out of his way to help his fellow man and other veterans ((http://www.drum.army.mil/mountaineer/Article.aspx?ID=6283). He would not knowingly do anything against the law, compromise his faith and deeply rooted principles, or jeopardize his rights guaranteed by our Constitution. On Sunday January 6th he was arrested for possession of five, 30 round empty magazines that he believed were pre-ban magazines when he purchased them. Meanwhile, in Washington D.C, David Gregory of NBC news doesn't even get a slap on the hand for a similar offense when he held up one on National TV during a newscast. My brother was medically discharged after 12 years of service and does not have the funds necessary needed for Attorney fees, and unless he has adequate defense and gets his charges reduced, he is not going to get the same treatment that David Gregory, a rich, white, liberal, media mogul got. This is a travesty! Please, anybody and everybody, would you be willing to donate to our fund to help support my brother? Below are some additional websites that will attest to the reason why my brother is deserving of your help. Thank you very much! Michael Haddad
