$500 TO SEND A GIRL TO SCHOOL THIS SEPTEMBER
The 2 girls in the photograph are Girls I met in November of 2010 when I visited a community in Kenya to learn about FGM and Child Marriage amongst the Masai. Most of the girls we interviewed had endured running away from unsafe situations involving abuse, rape, and more. This had a huge impact on me. I am dedicated to making a change in the human rights issue of FGM and child marriage by raising awareness and working with Sol Garcia and Project X Impact.
Previously I raised $735 on this sight for ongoing work I was conducting in Kenya, I now want to fund an extra $500, this will pay for 1 girls tuition for 1 year ($500 ea per year). Sometimes people commit to help 1 girl for more than one year, and this is possible too. In this case we can handpick a girl for you.
I am excited with my partnership with Project X Impact and excited about the work we are doing and the difference it is making. So far the photos have helped to raise attention and funding internationally, with funding coming from Canada, the US, England, and India. The work we recently completed in Kenya is being used for an extensive campaign to raise awareness and help support these girls. Sol and I are determined and both dedicated to this.
In January I revisited the girls in Ilbissil Kenya and traveled to remote Pokot to fulfill the work that Sol Garcia and I began in November. We worked within the community of Alale and learned so much more. The imagery and research goes towards the understanding of the different cultures and practices within Kenya, and to raise awareness and support for the community of girls that say no to Circumcision and Child Marriage. It is also an important part of their healing process, as we spend a great deal of time with each girl as she tells her story. As education spreads, more girls are making a stand and turning the tide of FGM, they are choosing education and need support. This is important and we know that we can do so much more.
