African-American Museum of Cleveland

Donation protected

The African American Museum of Cleveland has long been a space dedicated to the preservation of the culture and history of people of the African diaspora. Located in the historic Hough neighborhood the museum not only enlightened its community with informative exhibits, it emphasized the importance of a global community and provided programming that catered to the needs of the participants. Founded by Icabod Flewellen, the museum was the first independent African-American museum in the Americas and carries with it a rich and proud history. Sadly, the mounting costs of building repairs forced the museum to close its doors in 2005. The current museum staff (a group of talented and dedicated volunteers who have opened the museum part time) are making every effort to rehabilitate this treasure. The staff have launched a Capital Improvement Campaign, and hope to raise the necessary funds to repair the current building. In order to accomplish our goals, we need your help! Please partner with us and donate today to help with the restoration of our museum.
